Facts about Istanbul


Istanbul is the only city in the world built on two continents.
Istanbul population is about 14 million (1/6 th of the entire
countrys population).
The city was first known as Byzantium but changed to
Constantinople (City of Constantine) when Roman Emperor
Constantine made it the capital of the Eastern Roman
Empire.
Turks conquered Constantinople in 1453 and changed the
name of the city to Islam-Bol now known as Istanbul, mean
strong hold of Islam.
