phoneme /b/ and to segment words into phonemes

1. Teacher puts up a Powerpoint text on My Best
Friend

My Best Friend
Babu is my best friend. He is
as busy as a bee. He sits under a big
banana plant. He takes a book from
his bag. He draws a blue bird.

2. Teacher reads the text. The pupils listen and read


after the teacher.

3. Teacher picks the leader from each group to read
the text on followed by the other pupils. (class
activity).
4. Introduction of words by the teacher. Word drill.
Eg : best, busy, big, bee, banana, book, bag, bird
5. Teacher demonstrates the segmentation activity.

6. Teacher demonstrates and the pupils listen and
repeat.

Group Activity
i) Pupils are divided into five groups. Each group is
given a word to segment. Pupils exchange word
cards from one group to another.
ii) Teacher voices the sound of each letter of the
word aloud. Pupils to pick the correct card and
read the word.
iii) Pupils play Run, Read and Match. Pupils to take
turns to pick cards from the appropriate boxes
prompted by the teacher. Pupils read the word
aloud. Pupils to match the word card onto the
worksheet given for each group.
