GENEX Assistant Introduction

The GENEX Assistant (hereafter referred to as Assistant) is an expert radio


test data post-processing software. It is used for analyzing and processing the
test data (both drive test data and RNC data) of radio network air interfaces.
The Assistant can also generate analysis reports. The Assistant helps network
planning and network optimization engineers learn about network
performance and efficiently analyze network problems. This helps improve
their work efficiency.
The Assistant benefits customers with respect to the following aspects:
Quickly and efficiently obtaining the QoS of the entire network
Reducing the test workload required by network adjustment
Providing profound and effective problem location information.
Providing sharable analysis methods, and thus reducing the requirements for
the skills of network optimization personnel

Precautions to be Taken When


installing the GENEX Assistant
The GENEX Shared must be installed before you
install the GENEX Assistant. The GENEX Shared is a
common component of Huawei GENEX network
planning and network optimization solution software.
After the Assistant is installed, you must apply for a
license. If the license expires, you must reapply for
the license.
When performing tests, the projects that are created in
the current version of the Assistant must be used.
Otherwise, unexpected problems may occur.
The Windows XP operating system must be used.
Otherwise, unknown problems may occur.

GENEX Shared Installation


(I)
The running of the Assistant needs the support of the GENEX Shared.
When you uninstall the Assistant main program, the GENEX Shared is
not uninstalled accordingly. This ensures that the other products of the
GENEX series run normally.
If you have installed the Assistant on your PC, you can ignore the
installation of the GENEX Shared when you reinstall the Assistant.

To install the GENEX Shared, perform the following steps:


Open the installation CD of the GENEX Shared, and then double-click
setup.exe to display the installation interface.
Click Next.
In the agreement dialog box, click Yes.
After the installation is complete, click Finish.

After you install the GENEX Shared, the following components are
installed:
MapX component: used for processing maps.
TeeChart component: a control used for developing icon interfaces.
OWC component: a series of controls used for issuing electronic tables,
charts, and database to Web.
Dongle lock driver: used for maintaining version authorization.

GENEX Shared Installation (II)


Double-click Setup.exe that is in the installation folder of the
GENEX Shared.

GENEX Assistant Installation


To install the main program of the Assistant, perform the following
steps:
Open the installation CD of the software, and then double-click setup.exe to
display the installation window.
Click Next.
In the agreement dialog box, click I accept the terms of the license
agreement.
Click Next.
In the displayed dialog box, set User Name and Company Name.
Click Next.
In the displayed dialog box, click Change to set the installation path.
After the installation path is set, click Next.
Click Install. The installation starts.
Click Finish. The Assistant is installed successfully.

Applying for and Importing a License


Start the Assistant when no license is installed.
The following window is displayed.
Record the ESN in the window. Then, fill in the License Application Template and send a mail
to liufengzhen 00126279/huawei to apply for a license.
After the license file is obtained, click Update License to import it.

Data Import ---- GEN


To import the data of the GENEX Probe into the Assistant, perform the following
steps:
Click the Project tab in the navigation pane, and then right-click a dataset.
Choose Import Test Data > Import GENEX Probe from the shortcut menu.
The Import GENEX Probe File dialog box is displayed.
In the dialog box, perform the following operations:
Click Browse to select one or more test files of the GENEX Probe.
Select Automatic Combine By Comport to combine the test data of the same
port together.
Click Import and wait until importing the data is complete.

Data Import ---- LMT


To import the data of the LTE LMT into the Assistant, perform the following steps:
Click the Project tab in the navigation pane, and then right-click a dataset.
Choose Import Test Data > Import LTE LMT. The Import LMT File dialog box is
displayed.
In the dialog box, perform the following operations:
Click Browse to select a .txt file.
From the Indicator Name drop-down list box, select a counter name.
From the Merge Stream dialog box, select the LTE terminals to be analyzed
together.
From the Import UE ID drop-down list box, select the terminal IDs to be imported.
Click Import and wait until importing the IDs is complete.

modes. See the figure on the right.
You can right-click a counter in the
navigation tree and then select the
display mode of the data corresponding
to the counter.
In each display mode, data can be displayed
in two ways:
In a new window: Used to display data
separately.
In the active window: Used for data
comparison. For example, displaying the
Serving_RSRP counter on the active
sheet.

Geographic Display ---- Map Import


To import a map, choose Project > Set Map Path.
Before changing a map, you must remove the original map. To remove
an original map, choose Project > Remove Map Path.
After you import a map, the map window is not automatically
displayed if the following dialog box is displayed. To view the map,
you need to import the corresponding data. Then, select a counter to
view the geographic display results of the counter. For details, see
View of Test Results ---- Map.

Parameter Import (I)
In the navigation tree, select a dataset.
Choose Dataset > Engineering Parameter Management
> LTE.

Parameter Import (II)
The column headings in the engineering parameter file may be different from the default column
headings in the Assistant. The Assistant cannot automatically match the different column headings,
for example, PCI in the following figure. In this case, you need to manually match them.
After all required column headings are matched, click Importing the Execute Data to complete the
import. For details, see the following figure.

In the Assistant, you can determine whether to display counter values on maps. By
default, counter values are not displayed on maps.
On the toolbar in the map window, click
. Alternatively, right-click any area in the
map window, and then choose Layer Control from the shortcut menu.

You can define the labels of BTSs. For example, change the label of a BTS to any entry
in the engineering parameter file. The default value of a BTS label is Cell ID.

After engineering parameters are imported, display them geographically. Then,
you can view the serving cell corresponding to a counter dot. After selecting a
dot, the Assistant connects the dot and the serving cell corresponding to it.

The data in different windows of the Assistant can be co-activated.
When you select a data item in one window, the values of the same
item at the same time in other windows are highlighted simultaneously.
