Ramp Equipment Dispatching/Tracking

CHALLENGES

SOLUTIONS

BENEFITS

Finding a system that could work across numerous airports/facilities

Lost track of equipment, indoors and outside, in a very large area
Spent hours looking for equipment to perform maintenance
Struggled to know what piece of equipment was best/closest to perform
a work orders
Cisco RFID in conjunction with about AeroScout 500 T6 GPS tags
Attached tags to vehicle batteries, so they last long
Tags transmit X-Y coordinates but can also be seen indoors using RSSI
MobileView software makes it easy to track equipment families, specific
equipment and to dispatch much more effectively, all from a satellite map
Saving time and money
Saves an hour of search time for each maintenance event performed
Can split screen and dispatch effectively across multiple airports at once
Provides history of where
vehicle have traveled for
We save one hour of search time every time we
need to perform maintenance on a piece of
safety and efficiency
equipment.

Work-in-Process (WIP) Location

CHALLENGES

SOLUTIONS

BENEFITS

Poor visibility of WIP in the manufacturing process

Multiple people would walk the floor before each shift
No easy way to tell what components are staged or installed
Planning work and material movement was full of guesswork
TDOA and Exciter Solution provides good location
About 100 exciters provide location down to the work-step level
Over 1,000 T2EB tags provide location for each major component
MobileView places each airplane part on a scaled facility layout
Daily Work/Material Planning much more efficient
MV input to MRP provides improved operations
Can visualize if sub-components are pre-positioned
Planners/mgrs now what
work has been done via MV
It took a while to get the system working the
way we needed, but six years later, it is still
adding value to our operations.

Critical Tool Tracking

CHALLENGES

SOLUTIONS

BENEFITS

Overtime costs increased because specialized drill bits were not

where/when needed on wing production lines
Production was being stopped because of lost drill bits
Check-in/checkout procedures were not being followed
Limited visibility of returning reworked drills caused delays
Cisco Wi-Fi combined with AeroScout RSSI Technology
About 100 T2EB tags were installed under foam in drill bit containers
Workers were unaware of tracking
Exciters can be added to locate drill bits on elevated mesh platform
Cost savings and better production flow
No more overtime and client has visibility from dock to dock
Wait time for needed drills was calculated by MV and displayed
on a screen
Mgr knows when drills
The person managing the drill bits can see when
they return from the sharpening vendor before the
arrive before they even
driver even gets out of the truck.

Temperature Monitoring
CHALLENGES

SOLUTIONS

BENEFITS

Critical materials need tight temperature control and verification

If a freezer motor goes out, they find out about it too late
Some cases require temperature verification provided to the FAA
Many different locations made it difficult to track temp. data
Back-up easy as putting the T5 tag in the environment
Tags with probes used when temperatures are very cold
Tag sends temperature every 5-60 minutes and MV saves and charts
the data
MV alerts are created to catch any tags moving out of temp. range
One less thing to worry about
Hard temp. data is available, going years back
Alerts take the worry out of environmental monitoring
Currently testing in large
rooms with chemicals
Possible use case for hundreds of rooms where
different chemicals are stored and temp. ranges
need to be verified.

Specialized Shipping Crates Tracking

CHALLENGES

SOLUTIONS

BENEFITS

Crates that handle specialized parts can affect on-time shipments

When crates are lost, parts shipments can be delayed
Crates can come in different pieces, which increases chance something
gets lost
Attached a T2 tag to the crate, under the foam
Cisco Wi-fi and existing MV see tags, where ever they show up
Created MV alerts for when tags hits a loading dock zone
Out of sight, out of mind. Workers forget items are tracked
Knowing parts have left location and when they are available to unload
Very cheap way to make sure crate and parts are ready
Allow production a sneak peak at what is outside their loading dock
You never know where
something ends up, and
It is so easy to throw a tag in a create and know
that youll get an additional level of visibility on
AeroScout can find it
where that part is.
