Sustainable development

Achievements
Pictorial description

Need ?
The question is what we are going to leave for
our future generations - the barren lands,
vehicles but no petrol, factories with no power
to run them, mountains of concrete and
jungles of sky touching building? Can it be
recognized as development? Is this
development that can be sustained? We all
are aware of the negative answer.

Need Conti.
Can we survive with what we have been doing? Isn't it that
after wildlife and forests, it's our number next?
In order to bring things back on track, we need to rely more
on renewable energy sources like wind power and solar
power. These energies are unlimited and don't create any
pollution. Recycling can relieve at least some pressure from
our limited resources. Vehicle using non-conventional energy
can reduce the pollution and so can the factories do by
following pollution norms. Together, we can script the
tomorrow of our planet. We need to aim at development-the
sustainable development.

Need conti.
By 2030 it is predicted that 68 Indian cities will
each have more than one million inhabitants, and
six megacities, more than ten million each. The
rapid growth of cities causes a large number of
challenges, including insufficient power supply,
unreliable public transportation systems and
limited access to adequate medical treatment.
India is booming and sustainable development
becomes increasingly more important

Need Conti.
In fact, the United Nations projects that there
will be more that 10 billion people living on
the Earth by the year 2100. This explosion in
population is perhaps one of the greatest
reasons why sustainable development is so
important.

Definition
Development that meets the needs of the
present without compromising the ability of
future generations to meet their own needs.

Strategies for Sustainable

Development
Input Efficient Technology
can be reducing the exploitation of resources. So
this technology may good for sustainable
development.
Using of Environmental friendly Sources
of Energy, such as LPG and CNG which are
eco-friendly fuel,

Government should pay attention on

Integrated Rural Development Programmes.
Through this the burden and interdependency on cities
for employment can be decrease.
To focus on renewable sources of energy like solar and wind
for energy needs. It will be beneficial for the country like
India, where is enough sun light, to Convert Sun light into
solar Energy and Solar Energy in Electricity

For attaining the sustainable development it is

necessary for the government and society to
control on the Tragedy of Commons
It means to stop the maximum use of easy
available resources. With above the
government should stimulate the organic
farming and recycle the wastes.

After one of his talks.Dr Kalam , a 10 year old
girl came up to him for his Autograph
What is your ambition, he asked her? I want
to live in developed india, without any
hesitation.
Now its Sustainable development

Solar Energy Project

By 2012, a total of 4,600,000 solar lanterns
and 861,654 solar powered home lights had
been installed.
20 million solar lamps are expected by 2022

Over the past three years, India has taken a significant step
forward in implementing its green growth agenda by
commissioning 2,000 MW of solar power at the worlds lowest
tariff.
Solar power can reduce Indias dependence on imports of
diesel and coal for power generation, reduce greenhouse gas
emissions, and contribute to energy security.
If India is to achieve its ambitious target of adding 20,000 MW
of solar capacity by 2022, a number of measures must,
however, be undertaken.

India has the largest decentralized solar
energy program , second largest biogas and
improved stove and the fifth largest wind
power program in the world.

SOLAR Energy
Solar power plant producing 2KW electricity ,
providing light to 40-50 families who live in a
near by village.
Solar cooker
Only 1 gas cylinder in a year.
Solar radio cum torch
Solar chargeable laptop/mobile phone
chargers

Alternative fuels Briquettes

India will build the world's largest solar plant

to generate 4,000 mw from sunlight near the
Sambhar lake in Rajasthan that will sell
electricity at an estimated rate of Rs 5.50 per
unit.

Enviroment
India was the third largest emitter of Carbon
Dioxide in 2009 , after China and USA
How to control it??? For such a big problem how
big the solution has to be?
Pint sized
Plantation of tree.
Co2 emitted is absorbed by trees and they give
oxygen

Conti.
And for a healthier environment where we can
breathe in and breathe out , the need is of
sustainability
This will only be effective if it is properly
sustained.
Our model is a very good example of it.
All the water used in household work(kitchen ,
bathroom) is reused for plantation and crop
irrigation

Janak Mam has planted many trees and she

uses recycled water to irrigate them.
Another example of sustainability :
Every occasion(birthdays ,foundation day ,
anniversaries )is celebrated by planting trees ,
she is sustaining the model , promoting it and
passing it on to next generations.
In fact she gifts plants to her relatives who live
abroad .

Some Facts
WATER
According to a World Health Organization study,[19]
out of the India's 3,119 towns and cities, just 209
have partial sewage treatment facilities, and only 8
have full wastewater treatment facilities.
Investment is needed to bridge the gap between
29000 million litre per day of sewage India generates,
and a treatment capacity of mere 6000 million litre
per day.

FACTS CONTI.
in March 2009, the issue of Uranium
poisoning in Punjab attracted press coverage.
It was alleged to be caused by fly ash ponds of
thermal power stations, which reportedly lead
to severe birth defects in children in the
Faridkot and Bhatinda districts of Punjab. The
news reports claimed the uranium levels were
more than 60 times the maximum safe limit

FACTS CONTI.
India has been ranked as seventh most
environmentally hazardous country in the
world by a new ranking released recently. The
study is based on evaluation of absolute
environment impact of 179 countries, whose
data was available and has been done by
researchers in Harvard, Princeton, Adelaide
University and University of Singapore 0n
January 12, 2011.

Leadership challenges
The Learning Challenge: On the other hand,
moving too quickly without thoughtful
reflection and information affirms the old
adage haste makes waste.
The Development Challenge : if you empower
dummies, you get dumb decisions faster!
Sustainability leaders must focus on
encouraging employees, but also developing
their skills so that they can actually do what
needs to get done.

The Reconciliation In pursuing sustainability,

we must break down old behaviors, stop old
habits, and instill new practices. This kind of
deep-rooted change inevitably introduces
conflict. How sustainability leaders handle
that conflict will determine whether, 1) the
sustainability problem is solved, and 2)
whether the relationship can be rebuilt.

The Impact Challenge: Do we put more

energy building relationships on the team and
investing in people or focus on getting the job
done with excellence and efficiency? The
answer is that sustainability leaders need to
be constantly balancing between focusing on
the task and focusing on the people.

Women empowerment
A total of 2,44,270 incidents of crime against women (both under IPC and
SLL) were reported in the country during the year 2012 as compared to
2,28,650 in the year 2011 recording an increase of 6.4% during the year
2012. These crimes have continuously increased during 2008 2012 with
1,95,856 cases in the year 2008, 2,03,804 cases in 2009 and 2,13,585 cases
in 2010 and 2,28,650 cases in 2011 and 2,44,270 cases in the year 2012.
West Bengal with 7.5% share of countrys female population has
accounted for nearly 12.7% of total crime against women by reporting
30,942 cases during the year 2012.

Questions
The major Stumbling Block is
Imbalance
Why is this huge imbalance of per capita
income, poverty, gender inequality,
discrimination, Lack of women participation,
sectoral imbalance- availability of
infrastructure and socio-economic
development,?

ecological imbalance-Can we survive with what we

have been doing? Isn't it that after wildlife and
forests, it's our number next?

Sustainable, profitable growth can only be achieved if the

right leaders are working in a country that are fit to win,
underpinned by a culture in which performance is always
aligned with values. They are increasingly an agile, flexible
and diverse leaders who are motivated by doing good whilst
doing well. Some pioneers are building capability and
leadership amongst the society and are coming up with the
best possible solutions to the traverse conditions.
The same eminent person we are going to talk about who
took a small initiative to reclaim the tryst with destiny.

An eminent person like Dr. Janak Palta is an

inspiration to one and all in the country. If
each and every person could think the way
she does and initiate work like she does it
would be an introduction to new era in the
country
