Frequency Planning (ILSA Planner).

Installation Procedure

ASSET Installation is divided in to 2 parts:

1. Oracle Installation
2. Asset Installation

Oracle Installation

Insert the Oracle 9.2.0.1 Enterprise/Personal Edition CD into CD ROM drive.


If automatic start-up is not enabled, run setup.exe from the oracle CD.
The Welcome Window appears Enter mail ID and click Next

The File Location window is displayed. The source shows path on source path on
CD. This should not be changed. Click Next.
Destination: C:\oracle\ora92. If space is less in C Drive, then destination path can
be changed.

The Available Product Window appears:


Select Oracle 9i database 9.2.0.1.0 option then click Next

Select Personal Edition and then click Next

Select Software Only then click Next

Use the default Port Number and Click Next.


Oracle services for Microsoft Transaction Server is installed automatically for
Personal Edition installation. If installing the Enterprise Edition, then this feature
can be disabled.

A Summary window appears before the installation proceeds, Click Install.

The Progress bar indicates the Percentage of installation complete.

During the installation process you are prompted for the next disk location .
Browse to the location of the next disk and then click ok. The installation
continues.
You will be prompted for Disk 2 and Disk 3 during the installation.

Once the file has been copied, the End of Installation window appears, Click Next
Install, then click Exit.

Listener Creation

Select Start / Program / Oracle-OraHome 92 / Configuration and Migration Tools /


Net Configuration Assistant.
Select Listener configuration then click Next.

Ensure that ADD is selected and then click Next.

Use the default name LISTENER, then click Next.

The default protocol is TCP.Ensure that this is selected then click Next.

Select the Standard Port 1521 then click Next.

Only one Listener is required per server installation, Select No and click Next, then
Finish.

Database Creation

The Oracle Database used for ASSET Planner is created using Database
Configuration Assistant. It creates a database shell that has table spaces and
parameters configured for the use of ASSET Planner.

For Creating the ASSET Planner Oracle Database copy the following templates in to
C:\Oracle\Ora92\Assistant\dbca\templates.

The two templates provided are:


ASSET_PLANNER_Production_Autoextend.dbt and
ASSET_PLANNER_Small_Autoextend.dbt

Once the oracle database template have been copied, start the Oracle Database
Creation Assistant.
Select Start/Program/Oracle-Orahome 92\ Configuration and Migration
tools/Database Configuration Assistant.

The Welcome Window appears, click Next

Select Create a Database, then click Next.

Select the type of database to create then click Next.

Enter the name of database to be created, for example, Planner.

Check that non of the database features are selected, then click Next.

Ensure that Dedicated Server Mode is selected, then click Next.

Next.

Select Create Database then click Finish.

The initialization Parameters are displayed together with confirmation to create


database and then click Ok.

Once database is created you must enter the password for default user created.
Enter the Password, then click Next.

Configuring ODBC connection

Start/Program/Oracle-Ora home 92/Configuration and Migration Tools/Microsoft


ODBC Administrator.
Select System DSN tab and then click ADD.

Select Oracle ODBC Driver, then click Finish.

The Oracle ODBC Driver configuration dialog box appears. From the TNS Service
Name, drop down list, select the database connection to be created, for example
Planner.
Enter the Data Source Name: Planner.

Click the Work around tab and deselect the Disable Microsoft Transaction Server
check box.

Click Test Connection. At User Name and Password fields enter.


User Name: system
Password: password
The correct password should be entered as selected by the database creator. Click
ok.

If the message Connection Successful is not displayed, check the above procedure
correctly.
Click ok and then ok again and close the dialog box.

ASSET Installation

To install the ASSET Planner, insert the ASSET Planner CD in your CD ROM drive and if
does not start automatically, double click the file setup.exe in the ASSET Planner
directory.
Install ASSET planner with following options:

ASSET Installation

Follow the instructions on the wizard to continue with installation.


When the installation is complete you must reboot your PC when prompted to do
so.

ASSET Planner Interfaces Functionality: It is used to transfer the data between ASSET
Planner and ASSET configuration or import interference matrices from ASSET
Optimizer you need to install these features by following steps:
Run NAP Interfaces.exe in the installation CD in the directory:

D:\ASSET Interface Install.

This is self extracting package that unzips the necessary components to a temporary
directory of your choice.(C:\Temp\ASSET Install).

ASSET Installation

Navigate the Unzip directory and run the ASSET Installer.exe. This screen appears
showing the installation directories.

ASSET Installation

Click Install the features are copied to their correct locations and registered. This
message appears for each successful registration. (this should occur 3 times.)

Click EXIT.

Dongle Installation

Connect the Dongle:


Open ASSET Planner Administrator.
Create data source name for the ODBC connection.
Select the correct data source in a database login dialog. Log in as user with
administrator rights. The Table space dialog box appears:

Click OK ASSET planner starts to create tables and procedures. Wait until it finishes.
Before logging out click Utilities, then double click Coordinate system. A message is
displayed, informing you that the existing coordinate database will be overwritten.

Dongle Installation

Click Yes. The Select Coordinate system dialog box appears:

Click geocalc.dat then click Open.
Exit the ASSET Planner Administrator.

How To Create Project

Basic Requirement for Project Creation : Digital Terrestrial Map (DTM)


Antenna File (in .txt, or .msi etc.)
Propagation Model Values
Site Database (Optional)
Before Creating the project one should need to create a folder for
project data this folder should contain four sub folders: Arrays
Preferences
Prediction
User Vector

Start New Project (1/4)


LOGIN: Start -> Program -> Aircom International-> Enterprise V6.0-> Aircom Enterprise
suite.
Click Add in the Start Project window

Start New Project (2/4)

Name project
Setup the coordinate system: Click on
Change to set the co-ordinate system.
Select the Group & System from the drop
down menu, and press OK.

Start New Project (3/4)

Setup Map data and User data directories.


Map Data Directories:- Choose the Path directories where the digital map data are
copied (e.g. Vector, Height, Clutter ,etc.)
User Data Directories:- Choose the path to Folder created for project data (e.g.
Preferences. Prediction etc.). Also give the path of color palette.

Start New Project (4/4)


Set Map data Extent by just clicking on Calculate button and click OK,
Click Start to open the Project

Flags
To Create a flags close the project log off the Asset and open Administrator.

Follow Path: Start >Program > Aircom International> Enterprise v6.0 > Misc>
Administrator
Log in with the USER-ID as Administrator (only user with the administrator right
can log into the Admin tool)

After you logged into the admin tool,
Go to menu Utilities > Field Definer, you will get a window with the list of
projects where you can select the project in which you need to create Flags.

On Fields tab, click on Add Field button to create a new field and rename (ex. Status).
Click on the Type of Picklist to change it and select from the drop down menu, for
example: DU, Urban etc.
To use Picklist, create your Picklist using the same steps as creating the groups.
Go to Associations tab to associate your flags to the objects types, ex. Node-B
When it is done, click on Commit and then Close.
You can also take the export of Fields to use it in another project.

After creating flags log-in and re-open the project, Open site database you can check
the Flag(Depend on the name of field defined) tab of the Sites will show the flags (This
can be done only after importing the sites).
Path to open Site Database: ASSET > Database> Site Database

Click on New 2D View

From Map Information & Control window open enable the clutter data
initially the clutter will display in default black color.

Change the color of each clutter classification accordingly, and redraw.

Project Settings

Import Antenna Pattern (1/2)


Go to Menu File -> Import -> Project Data -> Planet/EET
Select the Antennas tab, tick the checkbox Antennas, this same path is used to import site
data.
Click on Add, and browse to the folder where you store the antenna pattern files. You may
use the Shift/Ctrl key for multiple select.
Tick the check box Add to all projects if you want to use this antenna patterns in other
projects.

Import Antenna Pattern (2/2)


Go to Equipment > Cellular Antenna.
Click on Mask and Info tab to check the details of Antenna File like Electrical tilt,
Beam width, Gain, Frequency etc.
Click on Commit All.

Propagation Models (1/3)


Go to Configuration> Models.
Click on Add, a window display Add Propagation Model in that window select
Standard Macrocell 3 and click on add.

Give Name, and click on View/ Edit
Model Parameter and edit Prediction
Model Parameters in the next step.
In Prediction Model Parameter first
set general parameters i.e. Frequency,
Mobile Height etc., if required or leave
it as default.

Set the values of K1 to K7 in Path
Loss tab. And then in next tab Eff. Ant.
Height select Relative.
Offset value can be given to each
clutter class, Default offset value for
each clutter is zero.

Feeders
Go to Equipment> Feeder.
Add Feeder give the Part ID in General Tab, add the characteristics of the Feeder in
Losses Tab, then apply.

Formats to import Site Database


Types of format can be use to import site database: XML Format
PlaNet/EET

Import the Site Database


To import the site database. Click on
File> Import> XML.
In XML Import give path to the xml of
site database select all, and then click
Import.

Templates (1/2)
To Create a new site manually, first step is to prepare site template.
Go to Database> Templates
Expand Cell Site, right click on site and click on Add Cell to create sectors.
To create more than one template right click on Cell Site and click on Add
Template.

Templates (2/2)
After adding the sectors to the site change the Antenna, Azimuth and Model
(Optional) or any parameter which you want to keep in common.
If you want to add the cell layer to the cells, just right-click the cell you added, and
from the menu that appears, click Add Cell Layer;
Apply and close.

To Place New Site


To add a MSC and other network element, go to
2D View Window.
Click on drop down given on the button Add
Network Element.
Add MSC to create MSC and place the element on
2D view then select,
Add BSC place on 2D view and same to create site
select Add Site.

Carriers
Go to Configuration> Carrier> GSM+GPRS
In System Carriers add carriers, it can be done in three ways: By specifying the Carrier range in ARFCN format
By specifying a single Carrier in ARFCN format
By adding the whole carriers for GSM Frequency

Carrier Layers (1/3)


Go to Configuration> Layers> Carrier Layer
In Carrier Layer configuration window, a default Carrier Layer is already defined by
the system: GSM-Default
Create your own Carrier Layer by clicking Add button and name the layer.
If the carrier layer being defined is a control layer (BCCH), select the Control Layer
check box.

Carrier Layers (2/3)


On Carriers tab, in the Maximum Allocatable Carriers box, specify a limit of the
number of carriers allocated on any one cell.
The maximum allocation per cell would be set to 1.
For TCH carriers, this would be set to a value greater than 1.
Also associate the required carriers with the carrier layer by moving them from the
Available list into the Assigned list, In Carrier tab only.

Carrier Layers (3/3)


On Groups tab, this options are not relevant unless you wish to use frequency re-use
patterns this pattern can be set either by use 3x9, 4x12 or custom pattern.
Click Apply and Commit.

Coverage Schemas
Go to Configuration> GSM Coverage Schemas
Click on Add to create a new coverage schema, and in the right pane Coverage
Categories , click Add to add new category.
In the Label box enter a description, then choose a colour.
Click Close to exit the Coverage Schemas dialog box.

Cell Layers (1/3)


Go to Configuration> Layers> Cell Layers, In General tab, the default Cell Layer is
already defined by the system: GSM-Default.
You can create your own Cell Layer by clicking Add button and name the layer.
To change the priority of a cell layer, so that it will be considered more (or less) likely to
be a serving cell, select the layer and click the + and buttons.

In Carrier Layers tab, specify which carrier layers are to associate with the cell layer, by
moving available layer to allocated layer.
Click Apply .

In Coverage Thresholds tab, Select the schema from the drop down.
To assign the level of each category double click on respective category, Threshold
Property window appear, change the level of the category, click OK.
Assign level for each category.
Click Apply and Commit.

To Create a new Polygon

Go to Vector Manager from Tools Tab of Utilities.


In Vector Manager in Fig. 1 right click on User Vector to create a new polygon.
Provide a name of the polygon, click on Add and then ok to add attribute.
Use the Icon shown in Fig. 3 to create the polygon.
Save the polygon by right click on the polygon.

Filters (1/7)
Go to Database> Filters, expand user then click on Add to add a new filter.
Filter can be created by many logics, it can also created by using flags that we have
created in the beginning.

To create filter, we need to follow six step of filter wizard.
First step:- Name the filter and click next.

Filters (3/7)
Any rule can be selected to create rule for the filter, by select the Available Attributes
from the left pane and click the right arrow.
One or more attribute could be selected. Right click on the OR to change the Boolean
expression to AND.
Click Next

Filters (4/7)
Third step is to set the values of the selected attributes like Primary Prediction Models.
Click on Values, Select Value window will appear, check the value from the window
and click OK.
Click Next

Filters (5/7)
Forth step is to select the Filter Type, Dynamic or Static.
To make the filter static, we have different rules which given in the tabs (Identifiers,
File list, Filters & Map View ) shown in the second figure.
Click Next.

Fifth step is of display properties.
You can also change in the display properties of the sites for each filters after creating
the filter.
Click Next.

Click Finish, in the sixth


window, click Commit All in the
Filter database and Close.

Global Edit
In some cases, you may need to perform a massive modification of certain
parameter(s) either to all sites or a group of sites.
To perform such modifications, Open the Site Database window and click on Global
Edit button.

The Global Editor window appears, Select the Filter, go to the tab where you wish to
modify the parameter(s).
Type in the changes and click Apply, after performing your massive modification, click on
Commit All on the Site Database window.

Exercise: 1
Task 1: Create a project name Test_2G Plan and change the color of each
clutter type.

Task 2: Create polygon to cover the city, and place new sites to cover that area.
Task 3: Make filters to group the sites of each clutter Dense Urban, Urban etc.

Coverage Analysis

Pathloss Prediction
To perform the coverage prediction for cells, assure the below items are assigned:
Equipment, including antennas
Propagation models

Pathloss Prediction
Go to Tools> Pathloss Predictor, the Pathloss Predictor window appears.
Select from the option given on the top of the window for site selection to generate
Pathloss prediction. Click Start.
Check the prediction detail Total Prediction should be equal to Complete.

Coverage Prediction (Non-Sim)


To create the coverage array click on Create Arrays button
on the 2D View and
Select Non-sim from the Pop Up menu or by using button
Create/ Display Coverage.
Choose the type of array(s) you want to create, by selecting the relevant check box(es).
At this step, select Best Server. Click OK.

Coverage Prediction (Non-Sim)


To Change the coverage threshold settings expand the
Coverage in Data Type tab, double click on Best Server.
Best Server Display Properties window appears, in this
window you can change the display properties of the coverage
array on 2D View.

Save the Coverage Array


Go to Arrays> Array Manager, Array Manager window appear.
Expand the Coverage/Interference, click on Best server, Click Save.
In Array File Save window give path
where you want to save your coverage give
name and Click Save.

To generate the coverage percentage per clutter type. Right
click on the Best Server, and double click on statistics.

In Statistics for GSM Best server window, restrict analysis to the polygon by
select button and use categories to generate statistics. Click Generate.
Tool generate an excel sheet which gives you the total covered area, clutter wise
and site wise as well.

Exercise: 2
Task 1: Cover the area of your polygon with 95% coverage at -90dBm. Also give
area wise coverage.
DU 80% at -65dBm.
U 80% at -75dBm.
SU 85% at -85dBm
RU 95% at -90dBm.
Task 2: Generate excel for coverage statistic for each clutter type.

Traffic Analysis

Terminal Types
Go to Configuration> Terminal Types.
Click on Add Button, Give a name to the Terminal type and change technology to
GSM/UMTS from the drop down.

Next step, on clutter tab select from Weight or Density to spread the traffic.
To fill in Density you need to know the traffic density of each tab, else select Weight and
fill the estimated total traffic in respective clutter.
If you think that a particular clutter will not have terminal (ex. Water), then put weight =0

Next step, on Cell Layer tab move the cell layer which is in use from Available to Selected,
by choosing the right arrow key.
Click Apply and Commit, now close the window.

Traffic Wizard (1/4)


Go to Arrays>Traffic >Traffic Wizard
Traffic wizard open, follow the steps to run traffic.
First select view by clicking on the button , make sure your 2D view must have that
area on display on which you have to spread the traffic.
Click Next.
Next step select Terminal Type. Click Next.

Third step: Select resolution, it should not be greater than the resolution of map.
Fourth step: Ignore the Restrict to Coverage, click Next. This should be select only if
you want to spread the traffic only on the area where coverage is available.

Enter the number of terminals that you would like to spread in the area of interest (
i.e. the total area selected in the 2D view window)
Ignore Attribute step, it is used when traffic should be spread with the vector attribute.
Click Next.

Click Finish.
To check the spread traffic open
Data Type, expand Traffic Select
Traffic: Trail (According to the given
name.
Check the legends from the Legend
tab in Map Information and Control.

Static Traffic Analysis


Go to Tools> Static Traffic Analysis.
Select the desired filter and click on
Capture Traffic.
Result comes in the excel file that can be
saved.

To apply the captured traffic on subcells
click Traffic, then Analyse.
Traffic analysis report generated, check for
TRX required per cell in generated excel file.
Click Apply Carrier Required on Subcell.

Exercise: 3
Task 1: Run the Traffic wizard to spread traffic all over the clutter.

Neighbor Planning

Neighbor Wizard
Go To Tools> Neighbor> Neighbor Wizard.
Window open Neighbor Planner, select view and click Next.
Next step, select the sites either from view or from the filters.
Click Next.

Next step, select the Plan type from the left pane, click Next.
In fifth step give the path to save the neighbor file.
Click Next.

Result open in the
Neighbor Analysis window.
Click on Make All Mutual.
Update Database.

To check the created neighbor,
open Data Type, expand
Neighbors/Exceptions, check Hand
over neighbors, click redraw.

Interference and Frequency

Planning

Interference Table (1/2)


Go to Tools> Interference Table> Interference Table Wizard.
Select view and click next.
Select terminal type, Filter and calculation method to create interference table, click
Next.

In next give path to save the
interference table, Click Finish.

Then go to, Tools> Interference


Tables> View Interference Table.

Array Setting
Go to Arrays> Array Setting.
On Serving and Interference
Cells tab, Check use carrier layers,
select cell layers and carrier layers
in serving and interfering signal.
On Coverage/ Interference tab,
Use frequency hopping, cochannel only interference, click
Ok.

Frequency Planning Process Selector


Go to Tools> Frequency Planning> Frequency Planning Process Selector.
In this window select the process you need to select for frequency planning
from the drop down.

ILSA Planner
Go to Tools> Frequency Planning> ILSA Frequency Planner.
Window appear initialize the ILSA(Intelligent Local Search Algorithm) Automatic
Frequency Planner, in this window click on Import Filters.
A window open to import filter.

After selecting the filter click on cell layer.
Click Next and Finish.

Click Initiallise and Start.

Go to view of the ILSA frequency planner window, and click on the graph

Exercise: 4
Task 1: Prepare Neighbor plan for your plan.
Task 2: Then do frequency planning and assign frequency to your planned sites.

Report & XML Generator

Report Generator
Go to Reports> Site/Node
Report, report generator window
appear.
Use the tabs to select the
information you want to generate
for the site, cell or any other
elements.

XML Export
Go to File> Export> XML.
Browse the path to the folder where the xml files need to be saved.
To export whole project check on the select all on each tab.
Click Export.

Exercise: 5
Task 1: Take out the report with site name, Lat-Long, Height, Azimuth and
prediction model assigned to each site.

Task 2: Take the XML export of your project.
