Regionalization of the
Philippines

The Integrated Reorganization Plan of 1972,


which was made as part of the law of the land by
virtue of PD #1 by former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos.
The Philippine Regions
National Capital Region (NCR) is the center of
education, government, industry, finance, and
trade of the country. It has 16 cities (CP3-M6NLQSTV) and a municipality (Pateros).
Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) was
formed under Executive Order (EO) 220 of former
President Corazon C. Aquino. It has 6 provinces.

Region I (Ilocos Region) located northern part


of the country, with 4 provinces - IN, IS, LU, P.
Region II (Cagayan Valley Region) lies
between the mountain ranges of the Sierra
Madre in the east and the plains of Central
Cordillera. 5 Provinces CINBQ.
Region III (Central Luzon Region) used to be
known as the Rice Granary of the Phils. It has
7 provinces ABBNPTZ.
Region IV-A: CaLaBaRzon EO no. 103 of
former president GMA recognizes the formation
of Region IV-A or CaLaBaRzon. Cavite,
Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon

Region IV-B: MiMaRoPa EO 103 of former


president GMA. Occidental Mindoro, Oriental
Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan.
Region V: Bicol Region lies in the south
easthern portion of Luzon. Camarines Norte,
Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, Masbate
and Sorsogon.
Region VI: Western Visayas Region Aklan,
Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros
Occidental.
Region VII: Central Visayas Region located at
the center of the Philippine Archipelago
between the islands of Luzon and Mindanao.

Region VIII: Eastern Visayas Region lies in the


eastern part of the Philippine Archipelago.

Southern Leyte
Region IX: Zamboanga Peninsula Region EO
36 of former president GMA reorganized the
provinces located within Region IX.
Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur,
Zamboanga Sibugay, Isabela City
Region X: Northern Mindanao Region had a
similar reorganization under EO 36. Bukidnon,
Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis
Occidental, Misamis Oriental

Region XI: Davao Region reorganized via EO 36.


Campostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao del
Sur, Davao Oriental
Region XII: SoCCSKSarGen Region reorganized
also via EO 36. South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan
Kudarat, Sarangani, Cotabato City
CARAGA Region formed under RA 7901 under
former president FVR. Agusan del Norte, Agusan
del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur,
Dinagat Islands
Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao: ARMM
formed under RA 6734. By virtue of RA 9054,
region is made now up of Basilan, Lanao del Sur,
Maguindanao, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi.

A. Land Resources.
1. Agricultural Land since the country is blessed with
rich soil, farming is the main source of livelihood.
