Prepares materials for annual budget planning such as analysis, budget performance reports
and year-end close data;
Provides updated budget estimates and account research;
Guides units of responsibility through university budgeting and forecasting processes,
reviews budget and forecasting submissions;
Serves a primary role in the development and implementation of annual budget including
fiscal resource allocation of appropriated, discretionary, endowment and gift revenues and
expenses;
Directs the new faculty start-up commitment tracking system in line with faculty hiring plan;
Prepare year-end closeout of appropriate chart strings;
Creates daily, monthly and annual analysis and reports regarding area and unit, grants and
awards, accounts, funds, payroll, expense and revenue allocation, etc.;
Assists with monthly, quarterly and annual journal entries, reports and statements
Maintains, and updates financial models and analysis;
Supports dean's office in forecast and budget preparation and oversight;
Monitors department operating accounts by tracking forecast compared to actuals and
reserve contingencies;
Monitors actual to budget expenses and revenue on a monthly basis;
Creates ad hoc spreadsheets, perform analysis, and summarize results;
Facilitates financial transactions some of which may be complex in regard to size or
duration of account;

Key job qualifications for financial coordinator


1. A bachelor's degree in business, accounting or a related field plus 1 year of
administrative experience including budgets, finance, grants, facilities, and
human resources; or 3 years administrative experience or the equivalent
combination of education, training and experience from which comparable
skills can be acquired;
2. Advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database
software programs is required;
3. Aptitude and interest in financial management and accounting;
4. Customer Service attitude and focus; collegial and diplomatic;
5. Highly organized and able to multitask and understand priorities. Flexible
and able to adapt to changing work assignments on a routine basis;
6. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information;
7. Demonstrated ability to work independently yet be an accomplished team
player.
8. Previous experience in a university setting;
9. Knowledgeable about PeopleSoft and Cognos.
