Analysis of Financial Statements,
- Evaluation of investment plans based on
future projections,

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This would be a group project,

Project would be divided group of around 4 in each
team,
Each group has to work with reference to one listed
company (turnover exceeding Rs 1000 crores)
While each group may have the option to choose a
company, they have to ensure there is no duplication in
the selection of a company between two groups,
Each group would get in touch with the CR (section B)
who would maintain a list of company chosen by each
group ( once a group chooses a company, that company
gets blocked and is not available for any other group
later) end date for making he choice:30th Oct,
CR shall pass on the group with the list of companies
chosen to the undersigned faculty for review,- by 31st
Oct,

PROJECT MILESTONE - 1
1. An introductory chapter covering:
A write up about the industry to which the
company belongs how the industry has been performing over the
years in terms of growth and other macro
economic indicators, (get authentic data in
terms of industry size and growth over the
years),
What are the external factors influencing the
growth of the industry, consumer behavior, and
market share,

A brief about the major players in the industry,

2. Financial Statement analysis of the company:
Analyze the profit & loss, Balance Sheet, and for
the last 5 years from the annual report. (tabulate
the data in the excel form source annual report)
Analyze the financial health with the help of
calculation of different categories of ratios along
with movement of share prices; calculations to be
done in excel with formulas,
Write up on the interpretation of the ratios in
terms of the companys performance over the last
5 years; ( this should be in word document)

3. Comparative analysis with competitors:
Compare data on key ratio data with the
closest or similar rivals in the industry and
also the average for the industry,
An analysis interpreting and highlighting the
strengths, weaknesses in comparison to its
closest peer in the industry,
Concluding paragraph highlighting the
outlook for the company in the near future
from an investors perspective,

4.Outlook in terms of future growth and
investment:
Make an estimation of the immediate
investment plans for future growth,
Assumption of sourcing of the funds for
investment,
Make an assumption on other key
assumptions, growth, revenue,cost etc.
Based on assumptions work out an estimate
of the future profits likely to be earned by
the company, ( 5 years profit & loss
projections),

5.Appraisal of the investment based on
projections:
Analyze the different methods and evaluate
the investment (ARR, Payback, NPV, IRR),
Assess the cost of capital based on the
capital structure as the discount rates,
Summarize your recommendation based on
the investment appraisal as to whether the
investment would be financially viable,

6.Final project presentation
On completion of the project, each group
would be required to make brief
presentation on the entire project ( not
exceeding 10 slides),

OTHER GUIDELINES

Project evaluation weight age shall be 20%,

The total Project is divided into different
milestones,
There would be a review process with each
group at the end of the each milestone,
Each group can proceed to the next stage only
after satisfactory completion of the earlier
milestone and obtaining clearance to go ahead
to the next stage,
Schedule for reviews have to be adhered to
strictly by each group,

Last date for review of Milestone 1: Nov 8th
Last date for review of Milestone 2: Nov15th
Last date for review of Milestone 3: Nov22nd
Last date for review of Milestone 4: Nov29th
Last date for review of Milestone 5: Dec 6th
Milestone 6 presentation by groups: Dec 13th
The above dates indicated are the end dates;
respective groups are advised to get their review
done before the end dates as stipulated
