60 YEARS OF EVANGELIZATION WITH GRATITUDE AND HOPE

MARLAN T. JOSE

OSA COORDINATOR
Holy Cross of Davao College

The country is in need of good

leaders.
Leaders to effect the change been
dreamed of by the people.
People waiting for somebody to lead
and guide them to the land of
promise.
The land of promise plagued by social
problems not new to the world called
modern.

Chinese philosopher Lao-tsu said,

To lead people, walk beside them . . .

As for the best leaders, the people do not

notice their existence.
The next best, the people honor and praise.

The next, the people fear;

and the next, the people hate . . .
When the best leader's work is
done the people say, we did it
ourselves!"

1.

Accept people as they are.

Dont forget the basic Need of
People (Maslows Hierarchy or
known as Motivation Theory)

Gregariousness means the need

to belong or to associate with
someone.
No man is an Island

2. Approach

problems in terms of the

present rather than the past.

3. Treat people with courtesy.

4. Trust others.
5. Doing things without constant approval
and recognition from others.

Why students in your school follow

you?
1.
2.

Is it because of your position?

Is it because they want to follow
you?

3. Is it because they have seen your

contribution to the organization?
4. Is it because of what you have done for them
personally?
5. Is it out of respect?

1.

Leadership is a rare skill.

2.

Leaders are born, not made.

3.

Leaders are charismatic.

4. Leadership exist only at the top of an

organization.
5. Leaders control, direct, prod and
manipulate.

1.

The top-down attitude

comes natural for people
servant leadership is rare
effective leaders see themselves
at the bottom of an inverted
pyramid.

Putting paperwork before people

work
The greater the leadership role,
the less time there seems to be
for people.
The greater the leadership role,
the more important people-work
is.
2.

Absence of Affirmation
Everyone thrives on affirmation
and praise.
Leaders wildly underestimate the
power of tiniest personal touch of
kindness.
Learn to read the varying levels of
affirmation people need.
3.

4. No room for mavericks: They bring us

the future!
Mavericks can save us from the slide
toward institutionalism.
Mavericks messes by their very
nature-the good messes institutions
need.
Learn to recognize truly useful
mavericks.

5. Dictatorship in decision-making: Getting

beyond I know all the answers
Dictatorship deny the value of individuals.
The one who does the job should decide hot
it is done.
Flat organizations are the model of the
future.

6. Success without successors.

Pride tightens the grip on leadership;
humility relaxes and lets go.
Mentoring is a non-negotiable
function of successful leadership.
Finishing well is an important measure
in leadership.

7. Failure to focus on the future

Future is rushing toward us at

breakneck speed.
Leaders concentration must not be on
the past nor on the present, but the
future.
Organizations are reinvented with new
generations of dreamers.
