Engaging Patients and

Families:
Establishing Mutual Trust and
Clinical Collaboration

The engagement of patients and their

families must to be considered from
multiple perspectives
Establishing trust and collaboration
depends upon the understanding of
the roles, responsibilities and
priorities of all parties

The over-arching message:

Despite all of the challenges of the system, there
are hospitals that are figuring out a way to create
Patient-centered culturethey're doing it...And it's
the little things that they put into place that
actually impact the patient's experience. But when
you take them all together they begin to change the
culture. And even though they may not have a huge
impact on the macro system, in that hospital and
for those patients, they are making a difference.
(Susan Frampton, Planetree)

Meet Harriett

How does this message apply to

Harriett:

So what about Harriett?

challengersencounters of care that falls
short of what they have a right to expect by
a long way we miss too many opportunities
to support people to keep well Society and
the healthcare and support system is changing
fast we all need to adapt
..acknowledge professional commitment and
values that that drive determination to make
a difference the potential to transform.
sieze the opportunity to create the future
where people are placed at the heart of care
