A-) 1909-1956
Creation of the lOreal company. Early and progressive launch of the brand
based on the research and innovation for beauty

1909 : Eugne Schueller created the Socit Franaise des teintures


inoffensives pour cheveux, lOral.
1928 : International expansion with purchase of Monsavon.
1931 : LOreal becomes the pionner of advertising.
1938 : Development of a redistribution policy : the proportional salary,
and the society takes finally the name lOreal .
1947 : Creation of modern advertising with DOP (street marketing).
1954 : Internationalization to the USA.

B-) 1957-1983:
The new president develops lOreal towards the international : brands acquisition
and creation of famous products.

1957 : New president : Franois Dalle.


1959 : Creation of a subsidiary Procasa in Brazil.
1963 : LOreal listed on the stock exchange.
1968 : New innovative and modern management.
1979 : Dermatology research centre established in Sophia Antipolis.
1983 : Opening of Japenese research center.

Great period of expansion for l'Oral. Massive investments and strategic launches.
L'Oral will become the world leader in cosmetics.

1984 : New CEO: Charles Zviak.

1985: Pionner of care for men products.

1987: First on mail-order beauty with Les crateurs de beaut .

1988: New CEO: Lindsay Owen-Jones.

1992: Incorporation of new strategy, environmental respect.

1994: Creation of LOral Israel and first international cosmetic group in India.

1996: Introduction in China with creation of Partnership.

1998: Launch of the international LOral-Unesco Awards for Women in science

LOral enters the 21th century. Diversification strategy and new citizens and
environmental initiatives.

2001: LOral is committed to Sustainable Development.


2002: New territory, Oral cosmetics. Joining the United Nation Global
Compact.
2004: First firm earning the Diversity Leadership Award.
2005: LOral receives the Anti-Defamation Leagues International
Leadership Award.
2006: Earn of the Corporate Diversity Innovation award.
2007: Creation of the LOreal Corporate Foundation.
2010: First Russian factory.
2011: New CEO, Jean-Paul Agon and new subsidiary in Africa.
