Who is an architect?



Qualified professional person
Completion of the required practical experience and pass the LAM
part 3 examination



a person who is registered as a Graduate
Architect shall be required to obtain such
practical experience as may be prescribed
by the Board and to pass the examinations as
may be determined by the Board in order to
be entitled to apply for registration as a
Professional Architect.
the following persons shall be entitled on application to be registered as
Professional Architects : any person who

(i) is a Graduate Architect;

(ii) has obtained the practical experience as prescribed by the Board and
passed the examinations as may be determined by the Board

(iii) is a Corporate Member of the Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia or has
obtained a qualification which the Board considers to be equivalent
thereto.

Coordinates the necessary engineering and environmental service
Study possible solutions and make design proposal
Prepare probable costs and construction programme
Acts as an agent when submits drawings to the local authorities

What is an architect do?



The building process



Develop the sketch design for client approval
Estimate for cost
Ask for building and planning permissions
Specification and building materials
Prepare Working drawing and other detail drawings
Shortlist suitable builder/contractor
Detailed measurement and cost prepared by quantity surveyor
Invite builder/contractor to submit their tender
Building contract signing between client and builder/contractor
Architect administer building contract
Make sure the site is ready for possession
Architect will advise on insurances, contract and others
Architect will certify stage payments to builder/contractors
It is every architecture student dream to be a successful architect in
private practice after graduation but how it can be.
HOW TO BECOME AS AN ARCHITECT?




Those who have obtained qualifications recognized by LAM and
PAM are exempted from the Part I & II examination.
The Part 3 Examination is mandatory for every would-be architect.
Upon passing the Part 3 Examination, one may become a member of
PAM and register with LAM as an Architect.

LAM VERSUS PAM
The Board of Architects Malaysia is a statutory authority responsible for the
enforcement of the Architects Act 1967.

The functions of the Board are provided under the Section 4(1) of the aforesaid
Act which includes the following :

Registration of Professional Architects, Architects and Building Draughtsmen;

Registration of architectural consultancy practices;

Regulation of their conduct and ethics;

Conducting examinations for admission to the profession;

Accreditation of architectural programmes;

Development and Promotion of the profession;

Representing the architectural profession in any matter at local and
international levels.

The Board of Architects Malaysia (Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia)
To enable the Board to carry out its statutory duties effectively in enforcing the
provisions of the Architects Act 1967, the Minister of Works has appointed Professional
Architects and other professionals of high standing to be members of the Board. The
