To complement the theoretical principle studied in the
classroom and be able to apply the understanding
gained in the design and analysis of subsea risers using
industry-based software like FLEXCOM.

Get an approximate riser configuration
Using the values gotten from the approximate riser
configuration, the static model is setup, analyzed and
optimized.
Offsets and environmental conditions such as current
are applied to the static model so as to run the dynamic
analysis.
The materials inherent damaging pull, burst pressure,
contact pressure and bending strain is verified against
the operational conditions.

Element set 1; Effective tension

It was observed that at the Far offset, with Current and
Wave applied, the 10 riser was compliant to the
dynamic sea state.
It was observed that at the Near offset, with current and
wave applied, the 10 riser was not compliant to the
dynamic sea state.
The buoyancy section was reduced from 60m to 50m
which in turn has reduced costs related to the buoyancy
section.
