Tata Motors - History :
Founded & established by Mr. Jamshetji Tata in 1945 as a
locomotive manufacturing unit.

Formerly known as Tata Engineering & Locomotive Company
(TELCO).

Renamed as Tata Motors in 2003.

Currently headed by Mr. Cyrus Pallonji Mistry.
He succeeded the previous chairman of the group, Ratan Tata,
with effect from 28 December 2012.

Indias largest Automotive company in revenue terms.

Began manufacturing Commercial vehicles in 1954.

Currently has four manufacturing plants at Jamshedpur,
Pune, Lucknow , Pantnagar, Sanand, Dharwad.

Listed on the BSE, NSE and NYSE.

Tata Motors is ranked 314th in the 2012 Fortune Global 500
ranking of the world's biggest corporations.

Mergers and Acquisitions
In 2004

Tata Motors and Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Co. Ltd. signed
investment agreement and Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Co. Ltd.
(TDCV) launched NOVUS, the heavy duty truck in Korea.

In 2005

5,00,000th passenger vehicle rolls out. Launch of Starbus and Globus
(buses and coaches), Tata Ace (Indias first mini truck) and Tata Novus, in
India as well as in Korea by TDCV. New factory at Jamshedpur inaugurated
for Novus.
Acquired 21% stake in Hispano Carrocera
Merged with Tata Finance

In 2008

Tata Motors signed agreement with Ford Motor Company to purchase Land
Rover Brands (UK) in March.


In 2009

Tata Motors acquired remaining 79% of Hispano Carrocera
