Lighting System
Artwork very sensitive to light intensity
Experts recommended light intensity to be
from 50 lux to 100 lux
Examples of luminous intensities
Sunny day in July = 100,000 lux
Cloudy day in March = 10,000 lux
Moons crescent = .2 lux
Lighting System
To reduce the intensity of the light the
system uses:
Fixed shading panels along with motorized
blinds on the west faade
Light is projected onto the ceiling, where it is
softly reflected

Internal Climate
Important to constantly regulate the
internal climate of the building to preserve
the artwork
Internal temperature held to within 1C of
optimal 22C
Internal humidity held to within 5% of the
optimal 50% atmospheric humidity
Internal Climate
Regulated by unique air-conditioning
system
Cool air enters the room through thousands of
holes in the timber floor
Air slowly warms as it rises to the roof where it
is extracted through a double wall at the
western end and through the side walls at the
back
Carbon filters also used to clean the air
Internal Climate
Thousands of holes in the timber floor
where the conditioned air enters the room

Switzerland's High Energy
Efficiency Standards
From http://www.isc.hbs.edu/
GCR_20012002_Environment.pdf
Switzerland ranked #2 in
energy efficiency by Esty
and Porter

Each canton (state)
provides regulations on
energy

It is estimated that this
building will use 115 kWh
per square meter
Energy Consumption
Low energy consumption of the building
due to:
High performance insulation
High performance double glazing of the
faades
Large shading elements

Natural gas was chosen to be the energy
supplier
