EMPLOYEE RETENTION IN

HEALTHCARE SECTOR

Objective of the study
The objective of the study is to figure out the
employee retention trend in Fortis Escorts Heart
Institute, Okhla, Delhi.
To come out with the retention trend in the four
departments i.e. Nursing, Medical, Paramedical and
Administration and to find out the various reasons
that might be responsible for the employees to
change their job.
Survey and Sample Size
A survey has been conducted in the organization so as to find
out the main reasons for the employee retention.

Sample size taken is 10% of the employee size of 1770

Methodology
Tools used for Data collection
Primary data collected through questionnaires and informal
interviews.
Secondary data collected through magazines, journals, websites,
and other corporate publications

Procedure of Data collection
Communication, asking questions and receiving a response in
person
Visiting the various organizations, libraries, browsing the internet
and also preparation of the questionnaire with the help of the
project guide
Analysis & Results of the survey
(Positive)
Majority of employees working in the organization said that this is not
their first job, and most of them have worked in the healthcare sector
before.
Majority of people agreed that their job description is matching their
qualification. Also they agreed that they have been imparted additional
training since joining.
Most of the employees are of the view point that they hardly feel
stressed out during work, also they hardly work overtime.
Employees believe that their services are properly utilized in the
organization, and they believed that their promotions are based on
their performance and experience.
People are happy to accept that organization provides them
opportunities for growth and development. The best thing they liked
about the organization is their co-workers.
Employees have also shown their positive response for recommending
Fortis to other p eople. They are of the view that fun at work provided
by the organization has a positive impact on their motivation levels.
Analysis & Results of the survey
(Negative)
Most employees said that they hardly receive
feedback about their performance. They also want to
see improvement in performance management
policy and leave policy.
This is very unfortunate that the employees find job
in abroad to be more respectable, and they are more
interested in going abroad.
This is alarming for the organization that majority of
the employees give less salary and lack of job
satisfaction as their future reasons to quit the job.
Other analysis in the project
Comparative analysis of attrition in FEHI with
private sector hospitals, public sector
hospitals and international hospitals.
Analysis on the basis of Exit Interview forms.
Analysis on the basis of tenure of current
employees.
Limitations of the survey

Non cooperative attitude of the senior doctors
Large sample size
Large area of the hospital to be covered and
explored
Change in shifts of the doctors and nurses
Difficulty in contacting doctors and nurses, while they
were dealing with patients
Time consuming process
