THE MEEK- THEY SHALL INHERIT THE EARTH Real land for the people For the Israelites land is salvation Ancestral domain for the lumads The meek are the anawim- the oppressed poor who are humbled and afflicted 4. HUNGER- THEY WILL BE SATISFIED Matthew: refers to people who hunger for moral uprightness and holiness and receive it. Luke: refers to people with empty stomachs whose hunger is for rice and bread.
5.THE MERCIFUL- THEY WILL BE SHOWN MERCY Underlying Hebrew word is CHECED Compassion that goes hand in hand with justice It is the feeling partner of justice (MISHPAT) CHECED + MISHPAT= social justice with a heart 6. THE CLEAN OF HEART- THEY WILL SEE GOD -Beatific vision- direct experience of the divine essence
7.THE PEACEMAKERS- THEY WILL BE CALLED CHILDREN OF GOD -Special relationship to God
8. PERSECUTED FOR THE SAKE OF THE KINGDOM- KINGDOM OF HEAVEN CORPORAL AND SPIRITUAL WORKS OF MERCY Corporal Works of mercy (Mt 25:35f;42f Feed the hungry Give drink to the thirsty Clothe the naked Shelter the homeless Visit those in prison Visit the sick Bury the dead
