WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?
The word communication is derived from Latin words
communicare or cummunico both means to share.
It is a process of exchange of ideas, opinions and
as a means that individuals and organizations share
meaning with another. In other words, it refers to the
transmission and reception of facts, ideas, feelings
or attitudes, thoughts, opinions. It is interaction with
people for exchange of facts, ideas, feelings or
attitudes, thoughts and opinions.
Communication brings people together by establishing
commonness among people. It is a social need for an
individual and life blood for an organization.
In simple words Communication is the process of
sending and receiving message.
Employee communicates 75% of their working time and
an organization communicates 90% of its working time.

1. Information: To pass on complete, accurate & precise
information.
2. Advice: To get specialized knowledge we have to seek
expert advice.
3. Order: To give the direction to perform a job in a certain
way.

COMMUNICATION IS A DYNAMIC PROCESS
Communication is a two way process where one
party is a sender and other is a receiver.
The sender must have his/her ideas, thoughts,
emotions which can be convey to receive by any
medium of expression which is called a channel.

BARRIERS TO EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
Physical Barriers: Insufficiently insulated rooms, sounds related to
physical disturbances and distractions either in the surrounding
environment or somewhere close by which perforce draw attention
of the participants.
Psychological Barriers: Mental turbulence of any type which
distracts the interactant or prevents him from paying attention to
the message.
Semantic Barriers If the receiver is not able to comprehend the
message that the sender intends to convey, it results into language
barrier in the process of communication.
Organizational Barriers: Two channels of communication- formal &
informal. Both these systems are important and carry message-
Sometimes giving information, sometimes reinforcing and
sometime conflicting- throughout the organization.
Interpersonal Barrier: Emotional reactions, positive and negative
attitude of the sender and receiver, wrong timing of message &
inattentive listening create communication barrier.
