 India is located in southern Asia. To the
northwest is Pakistan, while China, Tibet,
Nepal, and Bhutan lie to the north and
northeast.
Culture
 The main religion in India is Hindu 80.5%,
Muslim 13.4%, Christian 2.3%, Sikh 1.9%,
Other 1.8%, Unspecified 0.1%
 One family lives in the same house (parents,
sons, son’s wife, son’s kids, etc.).


Landscape
 The north region are snow-covered peaks, flowery
valleys and vast areas.
 Southward, the mountains descend into the great
Indo-Gangetic Plain and the landscape changes
drastically.
 In the western section are the desert of Thar and
the dry plains of Rajasthan.
 Eastern plain is one of the wettest regions on earth,
receiving up to 15 meters of rain each year. The
great river Ganges rises here and flows down
toward the Bay of Bengal. 
 Central India is rich, flat country, irrigated by
several rivers.
Climate
 Northern India, including the Gangetic Plain,
experiences seasonal temperatures, with hot
summers and cool winters with light
snowfall.
 The rest of India has a climate that varies from
warm to hot. During the height of summer
(April to May), temperatures can reach 48°C
in certain areas. The rainy season (June to
September) affects the entire country,
though rainfall varies regionally. 
Government
 The constitution of India is the longest and
most exhaustive constitution of any
independent nation in the world.
 The president of India is the head of the state,
elected indirectly by a electoral college for a
5 year term.
 The prime minister is the head of the
government and exercises most executive
powers.
Population
 With 1,150,000,000 (1.15 billion) people, India
is currently the world's second largest
country.


Economy
 The currency in India is called Indian rupee.

 25% of India’s population is poor.

 There are 2,482,000 visitors each year.

 Agriculture products rice, wheat, oil seed, cotton, jute, tea, sugar
can, potatoes, cattle, water buffalo, sheep, goats and pultre.

 Primary industries are textiles, chemicals, food processing, steel,


transportation equipment, cement, mining, petroleum,
machinery and software.

 Despite India’s impressive economic growth over recent decades, it


still contains the largest concentration of poor people in the
word and has a high rate of malnutrition among children under
the age of 3 than any other country in the world.
Education
 Primary education goes up to the age of 14.

 Secondary education covers children from the


ages of 14-18 which are 88.5 according to
the census, 2001. But only 31 million of
these are going to school, so that leaves out
2/3 of the population.
 Tertiary education is the third largest in the
world after China and USA. This is the
university level (law school).

Health
 The health care in India has been there since
around 3500 years ago.
 2.47 million people in India are HIV positive.

 Sports in India are cricket, football, field
hockey, lawn tennis and golf.
