SOLAR PUMP

INTRODUCTION

SOLAR SYSTEM CONSISTING EQUIPMENT

P V ARRAY
PUMP
MOTOR
CONTROLLER
BATERRY
FUNCTION

P V ARRAY
-It depends on radiation and temp.
-it has current-voltage characteristics.
PUMP
- hydraulic machines which convert mechanical-
energy into hydraulic energy.
e.g. centrifugal pump, piston pump.
FUNCTION

MOTOR
-to rotate the shaft of the pump.
-linking with current ,voltage ,torque
characteristics.
CONTROLLER
-it isolate p v array & give optimum i-v site-
condition to pump motor.
FUNCTION

BATTERY
- it storage electricity.
-no output from p v array battery can use to drive
the motor.
Working -principal

Advantage Dis-advanage

Wind-pump -Un-attended operation. -water storage require for low wind periods.
-easy maintanance. -high system design.
-long life.
Solar-pump -unattended operation. -high capital cost.
-low maintanance. -water storage require for cloudy periods.
-long life. -skill persons require.
Hydraulic- -unattended operation
pump -easy to maintain
-require specific site condition.
-long life.
Diesel & -quick & easy install -short life.
gasoline -low capital cost -noise & fume pollution.
pump
-widely used -high maintanance cost.
Energy demand for water pumping
DH = (Dwell + Dhdyn) + (DHadd + Dhloss) (m ) --------------

ATERNATIVE DESIGN & ITS DRAW-BACK

There are two ways using solar power to solar-pump

- directly connecting the solar panel to the pump.
- charging the battery with solar-panel and then using the
battery to run the pump.

Draw-backs
-if the pump is directly power to the solar panel then
water can only the pumped when the sun is shining.
-charging the battery first and then using that to run.
APPLICATION

Village water supply

Livestock watering
Irrigation
