ENGLISH LOCALITATION GREAT BRITAIN LONDON OLYMPIC PARK OLYMPIC PARK STADIUM Olympic Stadium Capacity: 80,000 The showpiece venue for the games. Thestadium is surrounded by wateron three sides, spectators reaching the arena via a series of bridges. The stadium is made with 75% less steel than other similar stadia. Aquatics centre Capacity: 22,500 Seen as the gateway to the Olympic Park, building began on the Aquatic Centre in 2008. The venue is dominated by a 160m long wave-like-roof and will hold two 50m long pool solely reserved for diving. Water polo arena Capacity: 5,000 Next to the Olympic Stadium and the Aquatics Centre, the water polo venue boasts both a warm-up and competition pool. The venue will cease to exist after the games. Elements will be relocated around the country. VELODROME Velodrome Capacity: 6,000 Situated in the north of the Olympic Park, the Velodrome is the most sustainable of all the Olympic venues in terms of design and construction. Top athletes, including Sir Chris Hoy , were consulted so that the venue fulfillsthe needs of the 2012 competitors. Eton Manor Capacity: 10.500 The Eton Manor site has 13 courts in total that will be used for the wheelchair tennis competition. The venue will also provide training facilities for those competing in aquatic events. BMX track Capacity: 6,000 The 400m-long located next to the Velodrome in the north of the Olympic park. The 2012 course includes a series of jumps, bumps and tight corners which will test the 48 riders to their limits. Basketball arena Capacity: 12,000 (reduced to 10,000 for the Paralympics) Situated in the north of the Olympic Park, the Basketball Arena is one of the largest temporary venues ever built for any Olympic games. This multi purpose building will have just 22 hours to transform itself from handball during the games. HOCKEY PITCHES Handball arena Capacity: 7,000 3,000 square metres of copper cladding will give this vibrant venue an unusual appearance. The arena will only host the preliminary rounds of the handball competiton. The semi-finals and final will be held at the larger basketball venue. Hockey centre Capacity: 16,000 The two main hockey pitches have been installed this summer in preparation for the test event in May 2012. OLYMPIC VILLAGE Olympic village The Olympic village is expected to be completed in early 2012. Covering 27 hectares, the equivalent of St James's Park, it will accomodate approximately 23,000 athletesand officials during the Games. There will be more than 3,300 apartments fitted with a TV, internet access and a private courtyard, as well as a dining hall catering for 5,500 athletes at a time. Facilities will include a four-storey Polyclinic providing state-of-the- art healthcare. The site will be transformed after the Games into 2,818 new homes, with 50% designed for key workers and low income families. Stratford International station Only a hundred yards from the Olympic stadium, Stratford International station, hosting ten different railway to the Games. After more than 125m of upgrades, capacity has been trebled to accommodate 120,000 people during the Games, with more than 200 trains expected to pass through the station per hour. A high-speed rail service called the Javelin will run from St Pancras International in just seven minutes. Stratford city Boasting a new E20 postcode, Stratford City is a multi-use development area consisting of new homes, parks, retail and office space. Locals will benefit from 4,850 houses and apartments, four tall office buildings - Stratford Place, The Square, First Avenue and Station Square and 100 hectares of new parklands, including new gardens stretching up to half a mile. The Olympic Stadium will host the Athletics and Paralympic Athletics events at the London 2012 Games, as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Where is it? About the Olympic Stadium During the Games... The Olympic Stadium is located in the south of the Olympic Park on an island site, surrounded by waterways on three sides. Spectators will reach the venue via five bridges that link the site to the surrounding area. The Stadium will have a capacity of 80,000 during the Games: 25,000 permanent seats in its permanent lower tier, and a temporary lightweight steel and concrete upper tier holding a further 55,000 spectators that can be removed after the Games. Facilities for athletes within the Stadium include changing rooms, medical support facilities and an 80m warm-up track. Spectator services, refreshments and merchandise outlets will be located outside the venue on a podium that will surround the Stadium, rather than being located within the Stadium itself. After the Games... The Stadium is designed to be flexible enough to accommodate a number of different requirements and capacities in legacy. It will continue to be a venue for sport and athletics, as well as cultural and community events leaving a lasting legacy.
