SEZ – An engine for growth
Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a specifically delineated duty
free enclave and is deemed as a foreign territory for the
purpose of trade operations, duties and tariffs.
SEZ are treated as if they are outside India for customs
purpose. Goods can be brought in SEZ without payment of
customs duty or excise duty.
Supplies to SEZ from other parts of India are treated as
export and are entitled to all export benefits.
Supplies from SEZ unit to outside SEZ is treated as import
and normal custom duty is payable as applicable.

Tax Structure in India
Types of taxes applicable to corporate entities can be broadly

Income Tax
Basic Income Tax -- 33.99%
Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT) – 11.33% on book profits
Dividend Distribution Tax - 14.162% on dividend declared

Wealth Tax
Wealth tax is payable @ 1% of the Net wealth of the
organization on yearly basis. No tax upto Rs. 15 lacs.

Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT)

Location : The SEZ is located on NH 17 (Mumbai – Kochi


highway) and SH 1

Road : SIL - SEZ is located on Mumbai – Kochi highway (NH 17) passes
through Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala.

Railway : Udupi is a major station on the Konkan railway route. There are
connections with Mumbai, Mangalore, Chennai, Trichy, etc. The railway
station is around 25 km from the SEZ.

Airport : Mangalore Airport is 40 km from the SEZ, & the nearest international
air port is Bangalore is around 400 km

Sea Port : Nearest seaport is New Mangalore Port and is around 20 km


from the SEZ location. In addition to that the Suzlon Infrastructure Ltd will
construct the Berth for its Unit Holders for hassle free import & export.
