What do we do with language in general?

Think about where you use language in your
social and professional life.

Language is the main medium
Language is used in all the areas of human
communication.
There are mainly three main areas where
language is predominantly used. They are :
1. Social
2. Academic
3. Professional

Communication takes place in the following
situations in terms of politeness:
1. Formal
2. Semi formal
3. Informal
Formal situation
Classroom is an academic domain
calling for the use of Formal
language.
Elicitation
You are all teachers like me. Can you think of the
language that you use in your classes irrespective
of what subject you teach.
Two kinds of classrooms: teacher dominated and
the learner centred.
Teacher dominated classroom will have
statements, instructions, explanations,
illustrations, elicitations from one person
Exclusive: teacher dependant (Im going to..)

the diagram.

Dont bring our personal likes and dislikes into
the classroom activity.
Indian classrooms are basically multi-cultural.
Youve got to be inclusive!
Be gender sensitive!
Draw a line between personal and
professional space.

Communication is important for all that is
called human.
We communicate for various reasons.
From the above exercise, its clear that we
use both verbal and non verbal objects to
communicate.
Verbal = language
Non verbal = other than language items.
