DAY 1 OF TRAINING

The trainer will begin with a welcome and the course and day 1 objectives. Next, the trainer will begin with an explanation of a WebQuest and its origin. The inquiry-based learning theory will be discussed and how its relates to WebQuests in the classroom.

The trainer will continue by explaining the WebQuest Effectiveness Survey Activity. Teachers will be told to arrange themselves in pairs on a computer or on a laptop. Trainers will explain how the survey will help with their design of their own grade leveled WebQuest which is the trainings major assessment.

Teachers will work in pairs or small groups to complete the WebQuest Effectiveness Survey. They will answer the survey together to assess how well WebQuests are built online for the use in the classroom. Teachers will then be expected to share results. The trainer will record quick notes for the group to see.

Trainers will facilitate and monitor teachers while working in pairs. Trainers will then promote a discussion of survey results to draw conclusions for future designs.

The trainer will conclude with a brief discussion with the teachers of how WebQuests and helpful to higher leveled learning and how its design can improve or detract from learning based on the survey results. The day 1 evaluation will be filled out by the teachers. The Day 2 agenda will be reviewed on the Smart Board.

DAY 2 OF TRAINING

The trainer will begin day 2 by giving an overview of course and day 2 objectives. Day 1 outcomes will be discussed to refresh the new learning that was made and the experience of the WebQuest Effectiveness Survey.

DAY 2 OF TRAINING

Trainers will continue Day 2 training by explaining WebQuest building arrangements, resources, available technology, and WebQuest website building.

The trainer will give teachers preliminary information about the final WebQuest building task such as grade leveled groups, where they will be working, what technology will be used, and how to arrange the WebQuest building site (Weebly) into a WebQuest. Trainers will provide teachers with important information about the WebQuest building activity. This will be done by viewing slides on the presentation on the Smart Board. Teacher will be walked through the Weebly website. A WebQuest building checklist will be given to keep teachers on track.

DAY 2 OF TRAINING

Teachers will begin and complete their grade leveled ELA WebQuest with the facilitation of the trainer.

Detailed Script

Teachers will put what theyve learned to the test by creating a grade leveled ELA WebQuest with their grade leveled partners. They will complete them as a group with the incorporation of their current ELA curriculum. This portion of the training will be the longest and will allow for collaboration.

Trainers will observe teamwork and incorporation of survey results from the previous day of training. Teachers will use the slide handout, survey results, and WebQuest building checklist for support.

DAY 2 OF TRAINING

Trainers will begin concluding the training by allowing teachers to showcase their WebQuests to the group and evaluating Day 2 and the course.

Trainers will complete the course by allowing teachers to show off their WebQuests and explain their creations to the entire group. Teachers will discuss their choice of design, activities, and relation to the current ELA curriculum. The training will end with an evaluation of Day 2 and the course itself.

Trainers will use a WebQuest Effectiveness Survey for teachers to use when examining effective and noneffective WebQuests.

Teachers will use this survey that includes yes or no questions, short written responses, and scaled 1-5 answers to gauge how effective completed WebQuests are online. The survey will be 15-20 questions and will be completed with a grade level partner.
Interactivity / Navigation

Trainer and teachers will discuss the results to draw conclusions on how important the elements of the WebQuest are to student engagement and learning. The results will be discussed orally and recorded on chart paper for all in the group to see. The results will encourage design choices that are effective for certain grade levels and content.

Teachers will use this WebQuest building checklist to ensure they stay on track during the building portion of the training. The checklist will ensure they are staying on task by building the site correctly and incorporating the WebQuest components needed.
