Wooster Urban Adventure Challenge

Water exercise is a great way to get the benefits of a fitness workout without the sweat and usual injury
risks. It reduces the burden on stress-bearing joints and muscles making it less likely to cause injury or
muscle soreness. Water exercise burns calories, builds cardio endurance; and increases muscle strength,
flexibility and lung capacity. The movement of water against and over the body results in both massage and
relaxation providing a calming effect. Its also more discreet than other forms of exercise because its
performed under water! So why wait--take the plunge! (This co-rec class is held in shallow water. Sandals or
water shoes are suggested for locker rooms.)

What is the Wooster Soccer Association? WSA is a non-profit, volunteer organization that works in cooperation
with the Wooster Recreation Department to encourage and support participation in soccer. WSA strives to provide
participants with experiences that build confidence, good health, team spirit, and civic responsibility. Our goal is to
reach high standards of good sportsmanship and proficiency in soccer skills. We also wish to foster a sense of
mutual support and respect throughout Wayne Countys soccer community (recreational, traveling, high school,
and college leagues).

What activities are available? The Wooster Recreation Department organizes clinics for various ages at different
times of the year. The association supports and organizes outdoor recreational soccer leagues for children
beginning at Preschool and continuing through High School. The association also supports and organizes
traveling soccer teams for ages 10 to 13 (U10-U14). Participation in traveling soccer is at the invitation of the
coach, and tryouts will be announced when new teams are forming. It is expected that all traveling players will
have participated in at least one season of recreational league play before joining a traveling team.
Where are games played? Recreational games are played at the Soccer Complex on Burbank Rd. traveling teams play in the Northern Ohio
region and may travel up to 60 miles for games. Wooster High games are played at Follis Field (and away) and College of Wooster games are
played at the College campus (and away).

Kung fu (also called wushu) is a Chinese martial art emphasizing flexibility and the use of internal force. Chinese kung fu began in the Shaolin
Temple around 527 C.E. and is almost 2,000 years old. There are many different types of kung fu; some imitate animals such as the dragon,
snake, mantis or crane, while others are named for a type of movement, like the northern long fist routines. Kung fu movements are circular and
rely on internal force to generate power. Kung fu students are trained in striking with hands and feet, shuai jiao close quarters grappling and chin
na (joint-locking and manipulation). Intermediate and advanced students may receive instruction in Chinese weapons including the staff, spear,
broadsword, straight sword, halberd, etc. The kung fu program at the Wooster Community Center provides instruction in traditional Pai Lum Tao
kung fu. Our program is designed to accommodate students of all ages and experience levels. No prior martial arts training is necessary, and
family group participation is encouraged.

Tai chi chuan and qigong are Chinese internal arts focused on generating and channeling internal energy, or qi
(pronounced chee), throughout the body to generate force and promote health. The movements of tai chi and qigong
are smooth, steady and circular. Tai chi and qigong students are trained in breathing exercised, fluidity drills and qi-
building exercises. The slower pace and more gentle movements of tai chi and qigong routines make these arts
particularly well suited for adults and seniors interested in increasing flexibility, range of movement or lung capacity.

Water exercise is a great way to get the benefits of a fitness workout without the sweat and usual injury risks.
It reduces the burden on stress-bearing joints and muscles making it less likely to cause injury or muscle
soreness. Water exercise burns calories, builds cardio endurance; and increases muscle strength, flexibility
and lung capacity. The movement of water against and over the body results in both massage and relaxation
providing a calming effect. Its also more discreet than other forms of exercise because its performed under
water! So why wait--take the plunge! (This co-rec class is held in shallow water. Sandals or water shoes are
suggested for locker rooms.)
