When people regard me as a hero, I always tell them that they should look inside them too because I believe that theres a hero inside every one of us and all we have to do is to open our eyes wide and feel whats going on, then let our hearts be willing to accommodate the needy, the desperate, and the hopeless, simply by extending our hand to them, and there you will unfold the hero that is in you. Efren G. Peaflorida, Jr.

On the Philippine history, Andres Bonifacios KKK (Kataas-taasang, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan) campaigned for the rights of every Filipino against oppressors by arming themselves with machetes and fighting for the country to the last drop of their blood.

Today, a group of young people in Cavite is creating their own sort of Katipunan, fighting for childrens rights, arming themselves with compassion and determination to push for change.

Dynamic Teen Company

Making a Difference:
Maki-LAKBAY tungo sa PAGBABAGO ng Bayan na
kailangan sa ating SARILI ay simulan.

An Overview:
The group was founded in August 1997 by four teenagers from Cavite National High School. The initial group, made up of around 20 members started as a friendship club which aimed to divert the attention of students from joining violent gangs and notorious fraternities that were thriving on the campus. Their major platform then was to cater youth awareness projects, talent and self-development activities, and community services. Today, the group holds different activities to address these issues.

Mission:
Dynamic Teen Company (DTC) is a group of concerned young people with a mission of making a small, yet significant difference in other peoples lives, particularly, to the small children in slum areas who have no access to education, basic hygiene and sometimes, even love from their families.

The Chronicles of DTC :

TOUGH BEGINNINGS:
DTC was formed by four high school teenagers from Cavite National High School in August 1997. Efren Kuya F Peaflorida Jr. founded the group of around 20 members from their campus to divert the attention of the students from joining gangs and notorious frats that were thriving there. Eventually, it became a friendship club that catered to youth awareness projects, talent development and self development activities.

In 1999, Peaflorida, who lived and was raised in a shanty near the city dumpsite, started to reach out to kids who were scavenging in the dumps by giving them clean food instead of the dirty leftovers that they scrounged from trash. More young people started to join its feeding project, that marked the emergence of the Kalingain Batang Mahirap. (Care of Impoverished Children)

The group was able to support itself and its projects by showcasing their talents in staged concerts and performances; and by selling old newspapers, bottles, and recycled products.

This enabled DTC to train more potential youth leaders and it eventually led to a purchase of a pedicab for its literacy and feeding projects.

Through the years:

In 2003, DTC started the literacy work when the founder took up Education in college. At that time, the group, particularly Peaflorida, was noticed by ABS-CBN and recognized him as one of the Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Kabataang Pilipino awardees in 2004.

In 2007, they launched the WE ARE THE CHANGE campaign to inspire people to be the catalyst for change in what they want to see in their home, community and the world we live in. For they believe, that real change only happens when we begin to touch ones soul and change ones heart at a time.

TODAY:
With the training and supervision of Kuya Ef, who is now a professional educator, DTC has indeed come a long way. Their mission to teach unschooled, labour-exploited and neglected street children is slowly being realized today. The group also conducts weekly feeding, first aid treatment of scabies and wounds, and values formation activities through their K5 Project (Kariton Klasrum, Klinik, Kantin at Komlab). Hygiene and first aid skills are supervised by registered midwives and professional nurses who are DTC Alumni.

For more than a decade now, DTC has been helping the underprivileged children, pulling them away from the bad influences of todays harsh environment. The group works in the depressed areas of Cavite City, particularly in the Cavite City Public Market, Himlayang Caviteo Cemetery, (a former city dumpsite), and an area where the Badjao tribes congregate.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
The fruits of their labour are slowly being reaped as former drug users and petty thieves who were reformed through their projects are now also serving as volunteers. Former scavengers are now in school and are helping to raise funds. Some of the children who remain unschooled are now able to read and write. DTC was able to reach thousands of children through their Mind Your Rights (MY RIGHTS) campaign and through their health-literacy work.

K5 Project:
Where did it all started?

The Dynamic Teen Company (DTC) has all started their history with their project Kariton, Klasrum, at Klinik (K3). This project also helped them grab a spot in the 2008 Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO), in recognition of the youths contribution to community service and nation-building.

The K3 project, which started as a pedicab outreach in 2004 is now a full-blown mission, reaching hundreds of unfortunate kids in Cavite. The kariton (pushcart) that the group designed converts into a classroom with a library, chairs, tables and chalkboards, packed with school supplies and educational toys to be used in teaching. This kariton also houses the klinik (clinic) that conducts annual hygiene orientation project, gives supplies like soaps, towels, toothbrushes, combs, shampoo, among others.

In January 2007, DTC upgraded the K3 project and is called K4 to represent Kariton, Klasrum, Klinik at Kantin. Eventually in 2009, K4 project was improved by DTC and is now called K5 to represent Kariton Klasrum, Klinik, Kantin at Komlab.

K5 Outreach Programs
Kariton Klasrum, Klinik, Kantin & Komlab
(pushcart school, clinic, canteen & complab)

K5 is the Dynamic Teen Companys effort to bring the basics of education, love for learning, food for the hungry and cure for the wounded. Some of them suffered maltreatment, abuse and abandonment. Every time they see the Kariton Klasrum, they run towards it like trucks of relief goods to a devastated and desolate community.

What fill them up are not the food alone, but the joy of teens telling them stories, fun learning of colors and crafts provided for them. Their healing are not merely from wounds being treated or health being restored but from the loving touch and mentoring being offered them by fellow kids who volunteered to bring back their rights as children, and as human beings.

LAKBayan
(Likhang Awit Kabataan para sa Bayan)

This fund raising activity encourages youth to channel their creativity through writing songs about helping others, unity, youth empowerment, and love for the country and fellowmen. This culminates by showcasing the songs through a concert.

The major endeavour of the said project is to encourage and promote positive change by the use of the youths musicality and originality, and at the same time showcasing the talents and abilities of the young generation in writing musical compositions.

Another goal of the LAKBayan is to sharpen the harmonious prowess and skills of young people in playing musical instruments and performing on stage. It also persuaded the attendees to contribute to the global combat against different problems and to go against the wrong flow.

LAKBayan 2008 didnt only demonstrate the capabilities of the juveniles in different aspects of life. In the same manner, it expounded the virtue of authenticity, team work, and unity. Music, indeed, is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life.

MY Rights
(Mind Your Rights)

This campaign aims to promote awareness of human rights to youth. Free lectures and fellowship activities and distribution of free printed materials are conducted throughout the year.

Kalingain Batang Mahirap Foundation Learning Center or Karbuil (Kariton Building)

Last March 5, 2011 was the mark of another momentous event in the history of Dynamic Teen Company as it inaugurated its giant pushcart, the Kalingain Batang Mahirap Foundational Center (KBMFC).

This three-storey pushcart building is designed and intended for services such as daily tutorial for kids and mentoring program for the volunteers, as well as the primary venue for DTCs activities and trainings centered on youth empowerment. Its main facility includes an activity area wherein most of DTC activities will be conducted and a library that will serve as a learning avenue for kids. Auxiliary amenities of the building consist of a kitchen, a warehouse/stockroom, an office, a meeting area, a roof deck and viewing deck, as well as tenant rooms.

Popularized as KarBuil which stands for Kariton Building, the giant pushcart also functions as the volunteers quarters where they can conduct their regular outreach preparations, meetings, fellowships, and gatherings.

The pushcart building is not a formal school; it sends a message of love for learning. Its goal is to encourage youth to gain back the interest in learning and it will serve as a hub, - Kuya Ef, CEO of Dynamic Teen Company.

THE FOUNDER:

You are the change that you dream and I am the change that I dream. And collectively we are the change that this world needs to be.

Efren G. Peaflorida, Jr. or KUYA F! grew up in the city slums of Cavite near the cemetery and dumpsite. He suffered bullying as a young boy and was being picked on by gangs in campus which made him lose interest in going to school and to discontinue his studies.

He became a participant of an interactive support group in campus of Club 8586, Inc. in 1994 which eventually changed his views and made him pursue his education through his mentor's principle: "Love learning and embrace it for it shall embrace and love you back and shall enable you to change your world."

Kuya F! formed the Dynamic Teen Company in 1997 together with his Club 8586, Inc. friends Rezcel Alconcel and Jefferson Bernal. DTC operated under the supervision of Club 8586 and was trained to slowly get involved in street education and community projects. Kuya F! and his team of Dynamic Teen Company volunteers furthered their cause by the operation of the Kariton Klasrum in 2007. This project was recognized by Gawad Geny Lopez Bayaning Pilipino in 2007, by the NEDA and UN volunteers programme in 2008, and by the ASEAN TAYO Awards in 2009. It also won for the Philippines the 2009 CNN Heroes where Kuya F! emerged as its "Hero of the Year."
