WET RISER.

INTRODUCTION
A form of internal hydrant for the fireman to use. Always charged with water Only required for buildings where the topmost floor is

higher than 30.5 above. For high rise building, each stage of the wet riser should exceed 70.15 meter. A jockey pump is usually provided to maintain system pressure.

LABEL OF WET RISER

Wet riser system is normally installation in a high rise building or industry building

It has a constantly pressurized water pipe supplied by a storage tank with a pump

It have three pump: Jockey pump Duty pump Stand by pump

open slowly valve and water will flow out and pump will operate automatically

Installed the hose and nozzle that prepared in landing valve

COMPONENT OF WET RISER

Landing valve Breeching inlet Wet riser pipe wet riser pump
Jockey pump Duty pump Standby pump

wet riser tank

LANDING VALVE
Connection to fire brigade canvas hose

Flange for connection to wet riser

Detail of a landing valve.

LANDING VALVE
Provided on each floor and should comply with M.S 1210 :

part 1. Usually located within fire fighting access lobbies , protected staircases or other protected lobbies. Installed at not more than 0.75 meters from the floor. Boxes can be provided to protect landing valves and should comply with M.S. 1210 : part 4. Quick coupling jet and spray nozzle should be provided in hose cradle beside each landing valve.

BREECHING INLET

BREECHING INLET
Firemen can pump water into the wet riser storage

tank to make up water use. Should be 4 way type comply M.S 1210 part 3. Drain should be provided at the bottom of the riser to drain the system after use. Should be located not more than 18 metres from the fire appliances access road. Not more than 30 metres from the nearest external hydrant.

Landing valve

Wet riser pipe

WET RISER PIPE

Usually located within smoke free lobby. All spaces are to be within a 45 metres from landing

valves. Where more than one riser is required for each floor, the distance apart between the risers should not exceed 60 metres . The riser pipe should be 150 mm galvanised iron to B.S 1387 ( Heavy gauge ) or class c. This return pipe shall be minimum 100mm diameter galvanised iron to B.S 1387 ( Medium gauge ) Or class B. All wet riser pipes should be coated with primer and finished with red gloss paint.

WET RISER PUMP

Draw water from wet riser storage tank. Fire rated type are from electrical cabling to supply

power to wet riser Should be protected from fire and away from location likely to be flooded Consists of three (3):

Jockey pump Duty pump Standby pump

JOCKEY PUMP
The first pump that will be

start. The pump will be started at pressure of 150 psi and stop it when the pressure reaches 230 psi.

DUTY PUMP
Wet riser landing valve has been

opened if the pressured drop below 125 psi. The pressured switch senses this set pressure activates and starts.

STANDBY PUMP
Standby pump take over the

function there is not perform by duty pump. The standby pump is set to cut in at 95 psi. Standby pump stop after the cut out pressure is reach at 220 psi. Should be supply with power from the emergency generator.

WET RISER TANK

Should be sized for a minimum effective capacity of

45,500 liter with automatic refill rate of 455 I/min. The intermediate break tank for upper stages of the wet riser should be not less than 11,375 litres with an automatic make up flow off 1365 I/min. May be of pressed steel , fibre reinforced polyester (FRP) or concrete. The water tanks should be compartmented by
Ball float valves Overflow pipes Drain pipes Water level indicators

Wet riser tank may be located on the ground floor,

first or second basement.

OPERATION
The pipe will connect through hose coupling.
Pump will be active when the switch is on. Landing valve will be on. The bottom on landing valve has a plate called orifice

which is limited the pressures of landing valves. The valve from the tank will go straight pipe that was connected with hose coupling. The excess water will flow through drain pipe where the process will repeat the same operation. The landing valve will turn off when it has been used
