PERCEPTION:
PERCEPTION IS A PROCESS BY WHICH
INDIVIDUALS ORGANIZE AND INTERPRET THEIR SENSORY IMPRESSIONS IN ORDER

TO GIVE MEANING TO THEIR ENVIRONMENT.

NATURE OF PERCEPTION

It refers to interpretation of sensory data. It involves understanding what stimulus means. It is a subjective process, therefore, different people may perceive things differently.

IMPORTANCE OF PERCEPTION
Understanding Human Behaviour: As each person perceives the world differently, we can find out why one individual finds a job satisfying while another one may not be satisfied. Change in behavior: If people behave on the basis of their perception, we can predict their behaviour in changed circumstances. Determining the Need : With the help of perception, needs of various people can be determined, because peoples perception is influenced by their needs.

Factors effecting Perceptions THE OBJECT OF PERCEPTION:


SOME THINGS IN OUR ENVIRONMENT TEND TO ATTRACT ATTENTION. BACKGROUNDS AND SURROUNDINGS OUR SURROUNDINGS AT THE MOMENT OF PERCEPTION WILL AFFECT OUR PERCEPTIONS. THE PERCEIVER WE EACH BRING UNIQUE EXPERIENCES AND PERSONAL POINTS OF VIEW TO EACH SITUATION

Some of you will think that the persons are on upward position & Some of you will think that the persons are on downward position

From the above picture some of you will perceive there is one old man put hand on his heart & some of you will perceive that there are one old man with middle age lady & dog on the road.

After a Necker cube is perceived from one perspective, it naturally tends to change to the other in about 10 seconds.

It means judging someone on the basis of ones perception of the group to which person belongs. Generally a person is likely to categorize others According to some common group characteristics such as sex, race, religion, nationality, occupation or organizational affiliation.

HALO EFFECT

It is judging a person on the basis of single trait which may be good or bad, favorable or unfavorable.
Sometimes we judge a person by its one impression of him or her.
