is one of the largest education systems in the world. We produce 31 lakh graduates every year - twice as much as US and 3 times more than UK. Yet, a recent survey found that more than 60% of total Indian graduates are without jobs. There are numerous job opportunities available in India, yet there is a huge deficit of employable talent in India. The need gap is the dearth of Employability skills among students.

Survey says that the IT industry currently faces a shortage of 5,00,000 skilled workers. Other industries like Retailing, Telecom, Manufacturing etc will also create 10,00,000 new jobs in the next 5 years

World Economic Forum report on Tuesday said that India will face huge skills gaps in some job categories due to low employability over the next 20 years and also warned of a looming global labour crisis. The report said that increasing mobility among countries will be a key part of the solution.

The following are few suggestions: 1. An Employability Strategy Fund should be created; 2. The employability skills in all university curriculum are to be explicitly identified; 3. The teaching and assessment of employability skills are to be enhanced; 4. Provide funding for universities to systematically review their work on developing employability skills.

To
sum, both educational institutions and industry should work together for enhancing employability skills of students as it is rightly said that you need to clap with both hands to get the results.
