WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PROJECT?

WHAT IS A FILM DISTRIBUTOR?

A film distributor is a business that is responsible for the marketing of the film that has been produced this could be done through TV adverts and posters being spread around the area. The distributor will have to set the release date of the film for it to be shown in the cinemas and the method by which the film has to be made available for viewing which is through various outlets e.g. home viewing etc. Some of the most popular film distributors that are known globally are Columbia pictures, Sony pictures, Universal pictures and Columbia pictures they are known for distributing the most popular films.

THE TYPE OF DISTRIBUTOR FOR THE MEDIA PROJECT

The type of film distributors that may distribute our film will be those who distribute gangster/ urban crime films like universal pictures and Columbia pictures as they have produced some of the best gangster films e.g.. American Gangster and boyz n the hood which are considered as classics gangster films. This will benefit us as they have the correct experience and will know how to distribute and market our film in order for our film to be popular and be seen by its initial target audience which will be an advantage for us as it will be successful.

Another type of film distributor that will distribute our film could be independent films distributors because since the film we have created is a low budget film as the props and the costumes were not of the highest level it will be easy to distribute the film independently as they will be an increase in profits as the budgets are lower, however the film distributor will have to go promote the film individually and single handedly which may be a disadvantage. An example of a independent film distributor is Entertainment films, Film 4 and general film distributors.
