VAAS Chlorine Service Ball Valves

Chlorine is a chemical element which in commerical use is

generally in liquified gas. - At atmosheric pressure: Boils at 34.4C & freeze at 101C -Dry Chlorine: liquid or gaseous chlorine < 150 ppm water by weight. Wet Chlorine or Moist chlorine : liquid or gaseous chlorine > 150 ppm water by weight.

-One volume in liquid form will transform to 462 volumes in gaseous form.
-The terms wet ordry having nothing to do with the physical state of the chlorine, whether it is liquid or gas, either state may be wet or dry, depending on the moisture content.

Chlorine is a hazardous and toxic material.

It is a greenish-yellow, nonflammable gas with a distinctive, pungent odor. The gas acts as a severe irritant if inhaled. It is nonflammable in both gaseous and liquid states. However, it is capable of supporting combustion of certain substances.

Applications of Chlorine:

- Manufacturing chemicals - include solvents, pesticides and herbicides, plastics and fibers, refrigerants and propellants. - As an ingredient in bleach, deodorizer and disinfectant. - Used in bleaching pulp, paper and textiles; for drinking water and swimming pool purification; in sanitation of industrial and sewage wastes.

VAAS Chlorine Service Ball Valves

The VAAS "K" Series Chlorine Service ball valves are manufactured in compliance with Guidelines of the Chlorine Institute Pamphlet 6 for "Piping Systems for Dry Chlorine.

VAAS Chlorine Service Ball Valves

Special chlorine service lubricants [ PTFE based fluorolube S30 or equivalent] are used for valve stem seals.
Valves with desiccants (silica gels) are bagged and sealed in polyethylene bags, tagged with a sticker "For Chlorine Service". Valves for chlorine service are identified by a letter "K" before the series number. Valves handles are with yellow sleeve as identification.

VAAS Chlorine Service Ball Valves Design

The ball has a relief hole on it's upstream side, to insure that excess pressure in the ball and body cavity of closed valve will relieve spontaneously toward the direction of high pressure.
The valve has a directional arrow, showing the flow direction. The valve has a blowout proof stem. Stem seals can be externally adjusted.
Valves are available in fire safe construction.

Valves can be fitted with optional "Fugitive Emission Kits" which have a secondary stem packing to eliminate stem leakage and two monitoring ports for detection and accumulation of possible leaks. Locking devices are available, including the unique design for LLP (Locked in Last Position). Stem Extensions to provide insulation of pipe. Valves can be used with the Vaas Torqmax Actuator for automation and remote control.

VAAS Chlorine Service Ball Valves Dry chlorine systems

Valves for Dry Chlorine Systems are used

with chlorine in dry or liquid state at temperatures between -101C (-150F) and +149C (+300F). In general, steel piping is recommended for handling dry chlorine, defined as containing no more than 150 PPM of water by weight.
