Firewall
o DEFINATION
o
A firewall is a set of related programs, located at a network gateway server, that protects the resources of a private network from users from other networks. o An enterprise with an intranet that allows its worker access to the wider internet installs a firewall to prevent outsiders from accessing its own private data resources & for controlling what outside resources its own users have access to.

What kinds of things can happen if you dont have a firewall

If you do a fresh install of Windows XP,& leave it unpatched, the computer will be attached within minutes. You will be will be attached through your open ports & bombarded with popup messages. Trojans, viruses & worms will be loaded in the pc,Spyware & Malware will clog up the browser. Even if we have all of XPs service packs and updates, not having a firewall the means somebody will eventually find an open port on pc.

How firewall help protect the pc

Most firewall like the one built into Windows XP will alert you about suspicious incoming traffic. Anyone trying to gain access to the pc will hit the firewall first. The firewall deflects the attack & give a warning about it. Firewall like Zonealarm will also us about suspicious outgoing traffic.

Types of firewall
There are 4 types of firewall:
1. 2. 3. 4. Packet filtering firewall Application gateway Circuit level gateway Proxy server

Antivirus software is used to prevent or remove malware Viruses exist on local disk drives and spread from one computer to another through sharing of infected files Common methods for spreading viruses includes floppy disk , file transfers and copying files between shared network drives Antivirus software is simple to use regardless of a users computer experience or knowledge of virus

Protection from viruses it will prevent your computer from virus such as malware and spyware Cost saving many free antivirus are available at relatively cheaper price or free Convenienceif virus enters our PC than antivirus gives us a notification that virus has occurred

Limited

detection techniques They do not detect all the virus Doesnt fully protect it also needs firewall along with antivirus Reduces PC speed or network using antivirus, it uses a lot of memory and hard disk space so it slows down pc

APPLICATION SOFTWARE

Application software, also known as an application or an "app", is computer software designed to help the user to perform specific tasks. Examples include enterprise software, accounting software, office suites, graphics software and media players. Many application programs deal principally with documents. Apps may be bundled with the computer and its system software, or may be published separately. Application software is contrasted with system software and middleware, which manage and integrate a computer's capabilities, but typically do not directly apply them in the performance of tasks that benefit the user. The system software serves the application, which in turn serves the user.

TERMINOLOGY

In information technology an application is a computer programme design to help people perform an activity. An application thus differs from an operating system a utility and a programming language. Depending on the activity for which it was designed, an application can manipulate text, numbers, graphics, or a combination of these elements. Some application packages offer considerable computing power by focusing on a single task, such as word processing; others, called integrated software, offer somewhat less power but include several applications user written software tailors systems to meet the user `s specific needs. Users create this software themselves and often overlook how important it is.

APPLICATION SOFTWARE CLASSIFICATION

Application software falls into two general categories ; Horizontal application Vertical application There are many types of application software: An application suits consists of multiple applications bundled together. they usually have related functions, features and user interfaces, and may be able to interact with each other. Enterprise software address the needs of organization process and data flow, often in a large distribution environment. Enterprise infrastructure software provides common capabilities needed to support enterprise software systems. Stimulation software are computer software for stimulation of physical or abstract systems for either research, training or entertainment purpose. Mobile applications run on hand-held devices such as smart phones, tablet computers, portable media players, personal digital assistants and enterprise digital assistants.

INFORMATION WORKER SOFTWARE

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) integrates internal and external management information across an entire organization, embracing finance/accounting, manufacturing, sales and services , customer relationship management, etc.ERP system automate this activity with an integrated software application. its purpose is to facilitate the flow of information between all business functions inside the boundaries of the organization and manage the connections to outside stakeholders. Accounting software is application software that records and processes accounting transactions within functional modules such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and trial balance.

Project management software is a term covering many types of software, including estimation and planning, scheduling, cost control and budget management, resource allocation , collaboration software , communication, quality management and documentation which are used to deal with the complexity of large projects.
Field service management (FSM) is an attempt to optimize processes and information needed by companies who send technicians or staff "into the field" (or out of the office). Optimization is difficult, since it involves intelligent scheduling and dispatching of multiple technicians to different locations daily, while minimizing cost and maintaining good customer service. FSM most commonly refers to companies who need to manage installs, service or repairs of systems or equipment.

Definition of widgets

Advantages of widgets
Advantages of web widgets: The web widgets make it possible to respond immediately to the users actions. The web widgets are pretty quick in execution as its not required for it to take a trip of the servers. It improves the usability of the website and thereby provides the users with pleasant experience. The web parts are easily available from the free resources and are easy to install. The web parts can be easily substituted with other alternatives such as HTML. The Custom Web Parts give more control to the developer and create a deep impact on the look and feel of the website.
