Definetion

A touch screen is a computer display screen that is sensitive to human touch, allowing a user to interact with the computer by touching pictures or words on the screen.

THE COMPONENTS
Three main component used in touch screen
Touchsensitive surface Controller Software driver

Touch sensitive surface

The touch sensitive is an extremely durable and flexible glass or polymer touch responsive surface, and this panel is placed over the viewable area of the screen. In most sensors, there is an electric current or signal going across the screen, and a touch on the surface causes a change in the signal depending on the touch sensor technology used. This change allows the controller to identify the location of the touch.

Controller
The controller is an electronic device that acts as the intermediary between the screen & the computer. It interprets the electrical signals of the touch event to digital signals that a computer can understand. The controller can be integrated with the screen or housed externally.

Software driver
The software driver is interpreter that converts what comes from the controller to information that the OS can understand. It is similar to a mouse driver, to take a common example.

Touschscreen Sensor Technologies

Two main touchscreen sensor technologies are Resistive touchscreen Capacitive touchscreen

Resistive touchscreen
Resistive touchscreen have two glass or acrylic layers. Is coated with thin conductive material, and other is coated with resistive material When an operation, electricity Passes across screen on the conductive layer; when pressure is applied, the two layer are pressed against each other and there is a change in the electric current due to the resistance and brought in by the resistive layer. This change is registered and the location of touch is calculated

It is consist of glass panel with a coat of charge-storing material on its surface. when the panel is touched, a small amount of charge is drawn at the point of the contact. Circuits located at each concern of the screen measure the difference in change & send the information to the controller for the calculating position of touch.

Application of Tuchscreen
Industrial Application Machine Control Industrial PCs Man-Machine Interface Office Automation Equipment Automobile Test Equipment Transportation Solutions Application In-vehicle Use Medical Application Medical Instrumentation Patient Monitoring Systems Medical Equipment Research Instrumentation

Advantages of touch screen

big screen is ideal for web browsing, picture and movies
touch screen gadgets usually have simple user

interfaces, which are more intuitive (iPhone once again is a good example) touch screen devices have fewer buttons .

Disadvantages of touch screen

People with fast fingers may mishit keys and find it through to navigate one need to be careful while handling mobile devices with touch screens because the screen gets damaged when kept in a pocket with coin and keys. Screens get very dirty.

CONCLUSION
In my view conclusion for touch screen are which

reduces human efforts, Touching a visual display of choices requires little thinking . save space as no keyboard or mouse is required Touch screens are the fastest pointing devices Touch screens have easier hand eye coordination than mouse or keyboards
