INTRODUCTION

PROCESS PLANNING Process planning encompasses the activities and functions to prepare a detailed set of plans and instructions to produce a part. The planning begins with engineering drawings, specifications, parts or material lists and a forecast of demand.

Process Planning Steps

Study the overall shape of the part. identify the manufacturing features and notes. Select raw material and machines. Select tools. Evaluate the plan. documentation.

TYPES OF MANUFACTURING PROCESS

BEARING HOUSING SPECIFICATIONS

Housing Styles Housing Material Aluminium alloy 6063 (magnesium + silicon) Bore Diameter Size Range

Types of Bearing Housings

Pillow Block Bearing Housing Flange Housings Take-up Housings Cartridge bearing housing

Pillow Block Bearing Housing used to provide support for a rotating shaft with the help of compatible bearings & various accessories. Housing material for a pillow block is typically made of cast iron or cast steel.

Flange Housings flanged housing units offer a multitude of advantages for the design, manufacture, mounting and maintenance of large electric machines

Take-up Housings used in locations where between-shaft distance must be adjusted.

Cartridge bearing housing used for the free side bearing to allow for expansion or contraction of the shaft produced by temperature differences.

Fits and Tolerances

The term Fit usually refers to the clearances that are permissible between mating parts in a mechanical device that must assemble easily and that must often move relative to each other during normal operation of the device. Such fits are usually called running or sliding fits. The term Tolerances refer to the permissible deviation of a dimension from the specified basic size.

Types of Fits
Generally there are three types of fits between the mating parts. They are: Clearance Fits, Interference Fits, and Transition Fits.

CAD

CAD (computer-aided design) software is used by architects, engineers, drafters, artists, and others to create precision drawings or technical illustrations. complete and clear graphics, material types and part name, appropriate set of views showing all required dimensions tolerances clear titles and labels.

MACHINING

RAW MATERIAL CUTTING used to obtain the particular product in terms of weight and dimension. lathe machine used for turning, boring, facing, and thread cutting.

CNC MACHINING

CNC Computer Numerical Control machines are widely used in manufacturing industry. CNC Programming Basics Types of CNC Machines Used CNC Milling CNCTurning

Grinding Machines

Used to obtain high accuracy along with very high class of surface finish on the work piece. Conventional grinding machines can be broadly classified as: (a) Surface grinding machine (b) Cylindrical grinding machine (c) Internal grinding machine (d) Tool and cutter grinding machine

INSPECTION

QUALITY CONTROL

Quality control emphasizes testing of products to uncover defects and reporting to management who make the decision to allow or deny product release.

INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION CHECKS PRE INSTALLATION CHECKS lubricants and tools checks GENERAL CHECKS

Failure

Tensile stresses HEAT CAUSES MATERIAL FAILURE

Advantages

The lubricant to pass through the housing directly to the center of bearings Leakage of oil outside housing is prevented due to the triple seal Economic replaceable units, require low maintenance Suitable for heavy load application with temperature
