SPSS Scatter Chart

Scatter chart shows the data has a high degree of correlation between horse power & Vehicle weight. It shows that the vehicle weight & horse power are related to each other. As the vehicle weight increases, the more is the horse power needed to move the vehicle.

SPSS Pearsons Correlation

As seen from the table the Pearson correlation is very high i.e. .859 which shows strong positive correlation between vehicle weight & horse power. Significance value is .000 which shows the correlation is highly reliable. As the vehicle weight increases, the more is the horse power needed to move the vehicle.

SPSS Linear Regression

Linear regression equation:

Y=Horse Power
X=Vehicle weight

Y=.039*X-10.778

Horse power is the dependent variable over the vehicle weight. Significance is also relevant i.e. we can be dependent over the data. R-Square is .651 which means 65.1% change in horse power is caused due to the vehicle weight. Rest 34.9% is due to the other factors.

SPSS Scatter Chart

Scatter chart shows the data has a high degree of negative correlation between miles/gallon & Vehicle weight. It shows that the vehicle weight & miles/gallon are inversely related to each other. As the vehicle weight increases, the miles per gallon decreases, because more effort & energy is required to drive the vehicle. i.e. more fuel is required. This would increase the cost of operations.

SPSS Pearsons Correlation

As seen from the table the Pearson correlation is very high i.e. -.807 which shows strong negative correlation between vehicle weight & miles/gallon Significance value is .000 which shows the correlation is highly reliable. As the vehicle weight increases, the more is the fuel needed to move the vehicle as energy consumed is more.

SPSS Linear Regression

Linear regression equation:

Y=Miles/gallon
X=Vehicle weight

Y=-.007*X+45.492

Miles/gallon is the dependent variable over the vehicle weight. Significance is also relevant i.e. we can be dependent over the data. R-Square is .739 which means 73.9% change in fuel required is caused due to the vehicle weight. Rest 26.1% is due to the other factors.

SPSS Simple Forecasting

Y=Horse Power X=Vehicle weight

Y=.039*X-10.778
.039*3504-10.778=125.878 .039*3693-10.778=133.249 .039*3436-10.778=123.226

We can relate it to the data given in the data file. If vehicle weight is 3504 tons then horse power required is 125.878bhp Similarly for the other data sets too the equations follow. If vehicle weight is 10000 tons. Then horse power required is 379.22bhp

Y=Miles/gallon X=Vehicle weight

Y=-.007*X+45.492
-.007*3504+45.492=20.964 -.007*3693+45.492=19.641 -.007*3436+45.492=21.447
