CEIP SAN JOS DE CALASANZ FRAGA (HUESCA) SPAIN

The Year 4 students have prepared this power point with the most interesting things we do in Spain when we celebrate Christmas. Besides, we practice with power point elements. We hope you like it!

The Nativity is a representation of Jesus birth. In the Nativity we can see Jesus, the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph and the Wise Men. There are two animals among them: the cow and the mule. Our Nativity is usually made of wood, plastic, paper or even rubber.

The living Nativity is a performance of children who play the role of the Nativity characters: Baby Jesus, the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, the angel, the shepperd The children act like living statues. We use real animals such as: donkeys, pigs, sheep, goats and dogs. We do this in the old town of Fraga. Later, some of the characters go door by door in some of the houses of the town. Then all the people who wants to visit us can come and see our performance.

The Christmas tree is a fir that we traditionally set at Christmas time. We decorate it with shiny balls, lights of different colours, little Santa Claus and colourful strings. On the top of the tree we put a bright yellow star. Under the tree we put a mat and presents for all the familiy.

We receive the presents from the Three Wise Men. We get the presents on the 6th of January. The Three Wise Men are: Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar. They leave the presents under the Christmas tree. We usually leave some milk and cookies.

The Christmas Log is an old tradition from Aragn and Catalonia. It is a piece of magical wood that has presents and fruit inside. Children hit the log to get the presents from inside. We celebrate this tradition on the 24th of December at night.

We receive and open the presents on the 25th of December. The presents are under the Christmas tree. We open the presents all the family together. We leave some milk and cookies for Father Christmas on the table.

We eat traditional food on different dates: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day and on the 6th of January. Some traditional food is: polvorones, nougat or roscn. The main meals are: turkey, lamb, seafood and soup. We eat 12 grapes at midnight on New Years Eve.

We traditionally eat in Fraga some special food at Christmas time: galets and turkey. Galets is a special soup made with pasta and some meat. We usually eat the turkey roasted with sliced vegetables.

It is a place where all children of all ages can play many different games: computer games, castles, bowling, snooker or a mechanic bull. The place is set inside an sports stadium. It lasts for a week.

We traditionally eat the twelve grapes at midnight on New Years Eve. We eat one grape every time the bell rings at midnight. Families eat the grapes all together in their houses.
