Overview : Skinput
Skinput is a Bio-acoustic Sensing Technique that allows the body to be used as an Input Surface.
Transverse Wave Propagation: Finger Impacts Displace The Skin Creating Transverse Waves
Impacts Create longitudinal(Compressive) waves that cause internal structures to vibrate. This in turn Creates longitudinal Wave Forms outwards from the bone towards skin.
A Wearable Bio-acoustic Sensing Array Built into an Armband. Sensing Elements detect vibrations transmitted through the body. The two sensor packages shown above each contain five specially weighted cantilevered piezo films responsive to a particular frequency range.
Variation in Bone Density, Size & Mass as well as filtering effects from Soft Tissues & Joints Mean Different Locations that are acoustically distinct.
Designed Software Listens for impacts & Classifies them. Then Different Interactive Capabilities are bounded on different regions.
Using Fingers,Palms,Arms as Control Any Computing Device Can be run.Response is real time, robust & remains functional while walking & Accuracy level is 99.5%()
ADVANTAGES
UI will appear much larger than on screen
Can be used without a visual screen Ideal for anyone with little to or no eyesight
CONCLUSION
Since we cannot simply make buttons and screens larger it will
be an alternative approach
Skin put's are not available yet, but could be in the next few
years.
Future Enhancement
Extensive Research is going on Currently on Skinput to
make the armband more smaller. Incorporate More Devices with This System. Extend accuracy level.
