O Verbo To Be
Em portugus o verbo ser usado para condies ou caractersticas permanentes e o verbo estar usado para condies transitrias, no permanentes. Compare os exemplos abaixo:

Maria bonita (Maria is beautiful) Maria realmente bonita, talvez desde seu nascimento.

Maria est bonita (Maria is beautiful) Naquele momento Maria est bonita. Talvez ela no seja bonita o tempo inteiro. Em ingls um nico verbo usado para condies permanentes ou no permanentes o verbo to be.
