is a problem.
Somalia's government has been unstable throughout its history o Controlled by tribes, Britain, Italy, Islamic extremist groups Land is not ideal for living as it is desert Recently experienced the worst famine the country has seen in 17 years
4 million people, including 2 million children, are in need of immediate food security and livelihood assistance 30% of children below 5 years of age are acutely malnourished o 75% of those 30% live in South Somalia
Sickness...
During the first 2 weeks of October, more than 906 measles cases have been reported o 711 of those are cases of children below 5 years of age o 20 deaths have occurred due to measles There are 1,206 reported malaria cases o 706 of those cases are of children below 5 years of age o 6 deaths have occurred due to malaria
The government of Somalia, however, limits the amount of humanitarian assistance that can be done.
Bruno Geddo, the UN refugee agency UNHCR's Somalia representative, said people still arriving in Dolow feared more fighting, a bad harvest, and forced military recruitment and taxation by insurgents. o "They tell us either you give up a camel, or you give up a child, or you have to pay thousands of dollars to the militants."
