INTRODUCTION
Technology is advancing day by day, leading to a bright & better future. It has enhanced the capacity of performance of humans as well as machines. This presentation provides brief description of some latest automobile technologies and how these technologies are made available to us .

DTS-i

(DIGITAL TWIN SPARK IGNITION)

This technology was introduced by Bajaj Auto Pvt.ltd.

Digital twin spark ignition has two spark plug to ignite the charge in the combustion chamber.
Two spark plug at either ends of the combustion chamber help in faster and better combustion. It is used in petrol engine.

WORKING OF DTS-I
When the rich mixture of air and fuel enter in the combustion chamber , the 2- spark plugs fixed at opposite end of engine cylinder generates spark and this spark burns the mixture and thus give power to 4-stroke engine. Here spark is generated by the microchip.

MERITS OF DTS-I SYSTEM

It increases the efficiency. It increases the power output of engine . Less vibration and noise. No over heating& less emission

DEMERITS OF DTS-I SYSTEM

Complexity There is high NOx emission If one spark plug get damaged then we have to replace both. The cost is relatively more

ATFT tech was introduced by one of the auto legend Hero Honda. Advance Tumble Flow Induction Technology is the process by virtue of which fuel air mixture can be burnt completely inside the combustion chamber.

ATFT (ADVANCE TUMBLE FLOW INDUCTION TECHNOLOGY)

IMPORTANCE & WORKING

Low engine rpm makes the combustion process incomplete and thereby increasing the pollution from the engine. At low speed, induction process becomes very slow so fuel does not get enough air to burn the fuel completely. This drawback raises the need of development of this technology. Tumble flow means; an air flow circulating in the direction of the cylinder axis. The tumble flow is effective to improve the combustion at the light loading of an engine by the strong turbulence effect which is caused when the tumble flow is broken near the end of the compression stroke

MERITS OF ATFT
Ignition Time Decreases. Rich mixture(air+fuel)burns completely in combustion chamber.. Low Nox emission.

DEMERITS OF ATFT
High vibration problem. High specific fuel consumption, Less mileage.

HET(HONDA ECO TECHNOLOGY)

HET primarily aims at reducing the friction in the engine and features lightweight components, which enables an 11 % increase in fuel efficiency over the older variants.

This technology was introduced by TVS MOTORS. The CVTI technology is based on the principle of "Swirl and Tumble Induction".

CVT-i(Charge motion variable timing intelligent engine)

DESCRIPTION
The

CVT-i Engine combines swirl and tumble motion to achieve very high in cylinder charge motion. In very simple words, when the air-fuel mixture enters the combustion chamber, the combustion will be more complete if there is turbulence. Turbulence is created in the engine of the Bike by making the airfuel mixture Swirl horizontally like a merry go round. The overall charge motion is three times more than conventional port designs.

CONTD.
This apart, TVS has applied VT-i technology consisting of deceleration fuel cut off and significantly reduced friction. CVT-i engine is the combination of charge motion portand VT-i technology giving it best in class fuel efficiency.

BENEFITS
This helps in uniform mixing of fuel and air to ensure efficient combustion for superior fuel economy and reduced emission.

TECHNOLOGY IN CARS
i-VTEC
(INTELLIGENT VALVE TIMING & LIFT ELECTRONIC CONTROL) WORKING

The i-VTEC engine works by controlling the timing and lifting of the camshafts depending on engine speeds. The valves open smaller during low engine speeds to achieve maximum fuel efficiency. The valves will open bigger at higher engine speeds to achieve higher performance.

PROS
HIGH POWER REDUCED WEIGHT LOW FUEL CONSUMPTION

CONS
EXTRA VALVE TRAIN MASS COMPLEXITY & BREAKDOWN PROBLEMS WHILE WORKING AT LOW RPMS.

TDI (TURBOCHARGED DIRECT INJECTION ENGINE)

Turbocharged Direct Injection or TDI is a design of turbodiesel engines, which feature turbocharging and cylinder-direct fuel injection, developed and produced by the Volkswagen Group.

WORKING
The TDI engine uses direct injection ,where a fuel injector sprays atomised fuel directly into the main combustion chamber of each cylinder , rather than the pre-combustion chamber. The engine also uses forced induction by way of a turbocharger to increase the amount of air which is able to enter the engine cylinders, and most TDI engines also feature an intercooler to lower the temperature of the 'charged', or compressed air from the turbo, thereby increasing the amount of fuel that can be injected and combusted . These, in combination, allow for greater engine efficiency, and therefore greater power outputs, while also decreasing emissions and providing more torque.

PROS
PRECISE INJECTORS ARE USED LOW HEAT LOSS FAST STARTUP HIGH POWER DEVELOPMENT HIGH EFFICIENCY

CONS
INCREASED COMBUSTION NOISE PRODUCES POLLUTANTS LIKE NOx COSTLY

CRD-i
CRD-i stands for Common Rail Direct Injection meaning, direct injection of the fuel into the cylinders of a diesel engine via a single, common line, called the common rail which is connected to all the fuel injectors. The new common rail (line) engines maintain constant pressure regardless of the injection sequence. This pressure then remains permanently available throughout the fuel line The engine's electronic timing regulates injection pressure according to engine speed and load.

WORKING
CRDI system uses common rail which is like one single rail or fuel channel which contains diesel compresses at high pressure. This is a called a common rail because there is one single pump which compresses the diesel and one single rail which contains that compressed fuel. The fuel is injected into each engine cylinder at a particular time interval based on the position of moving piston inside the cylinder

CONTD.
There is an microprocessor encrpyted ;which can calculate the precise amount of the diesel and the timing when the diesel should be injected inside the cylinder. The microprocessor works with input from multiple sensors such as Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor, crank position sensor, pressure sensor, lambda sensor etc.

PROS
More power is developed. Precise injection timing is obtained. Pollutants are reduced. The powerful microcomputer makes the whole system more perfect. More stability

CONS

Costly with high maintenance Increased weight of the assembly
