NOTE: WORDS REFERING TO A NUMBER OF PEOPLE OR ANIMALS ARE USUALLY SINGULAR
COUNTABLE NOUN

It cannot be counted It does not have a plural form, in other words, an uncountable noun is always singular) Ex. The noun girl can refer to any girl in the entire universe; if we add this as in this girl in sentence , we are limiting the meaning to one specific girl. It can be this, that, the, a, an ,etc.
