Chakra means Wheel in Sanskrit. The body has spinning energy centers that look like spinning wheels and are called, Chakras. As with all things in our reality, they are linked to sound, light and color. To heal, is to bring the chakras into alignment and balance. The following is a description of the seven traditional chakras:

Base: Kundalini: Root Chakra:

Located at the base of the spine. Contains the primary 8 cells that have all of the knowledge of creation and remain the only cells in your body that do not change in your lifetime. It grounds us in the physical world. The Color is RED.

Spleen: Located just beneath the navel,

and related to our sexual and reproductive capacity. Blockage manifests as emotional problems or sexual guilt. The color is ORANGE.

Solar Plexis: Seat of Emotions. Gives

us a sense of personal power in the world. Blockage manifests as anger or a sense of victimization. The color is YELLOW. 2

Heart Chakra: Blockage can manifest as

immune system or heart problems, or a lack of compassion. The Color is GREEN.

Throat: Tied to creativity and

communication. Feels pressure when you are not communicating your emotions properly. The color is BLUE.

Third Eye: Pineal Gland: Is a physical eye

with the capabilities of looking upward. The color is INDIGO.

Crown: Connects you with message from

higher realms. Can be experienced as a pressure on the top of the head. The color is PURPLE or VIOLET.

Sound and the Chakras

Ancient Indian philosophy regards sound, namely Om, as the essence of the universe. These basic vibrations are used in chanting, and can be studied in their relevance to chakras. According to the diagram, a chakra corresponds with a musical note on a scale. These frequencies have an effect on our feelings that can alter chemical reactions in the body. A listener's experience is unique, and in turn interpretations vary. This is what makes art and creation so wonderful.

Kundalini Energy
Stretching back into the corridors of time, Asian religions have spoken of a mystical force called the 'Kundalini'. The rise of the kundalini is linked with a warm liquidly magnetic energy when it rises up the spine. Releasing the Kundalini energy too quickly can have serious emotional effects on a person. One should not attempt to open this thrust of energy if one is not in a balanced psychologically. This is not for those with manic depression or bi-polar disorder. Kundalini is described as a coiled serpent at the base of the spine. The coiled and dormant 'feminine' energy, refers to the vast potential of psychic energy contained within us all. Kundalini can be described as a great reservoir of creative energy at the base of the spine.
