• EDI is the computer-to-computer
exchange of business documents.

• Data accuracy – No manual re-keying of
data.
• Faster processing times, easy to
implement and easy to maintain.
• Case number notification within 48 hours.
• No need to mail or fax CA1/CA2 forms to
OWCP.

The OWCP Implementation


Convention (IC)
• The participating agency is provided with copies of the OWCP
Implementation Convention (IC) which contains guidelines for the
following transaction data sets:
– 148 is used to submit the Federal Workers’ Compensation report of
Injury and/or illness (CA1/CA2)
– 824 is used to return the Case Number assigned to each 148 report.
– 997 is used to acknowledge receipt of the 148 and 824
• Depending on any error that may occur it will be return to the
submitting agency inside the one of the following transaction data
sets:
– 824 Failure to comply with the 148 IC.
– 997 Failure to comply with the standard syntax.
