Attempting to influence policy
- Conference on the Social Dimensions of the Structural Adjustment Programme. - Condemnation of the strict adherence by the government to the IMF/ World Bank conditions. - Later realized that the reversal is virtually non-existent so to accommodate themselves to what appears to be the only viable development path.

- Ensure that the process of policy formulation is as inclusive as


possible.

Adjusting To A Changed Environment


Attracting new members:
Organize the unorganized Groups of self-employed operators Education and skill development services Training to self employed workers

Participating in job creation:

- Mobilizing resources from its members to invest in productive-enterprises

- Labour Enterprise Trust (LET) Training union officers and activists: - Task of mobilizing members and obtaining improved conditions for
them

Women & Unions


Estimated share of 9-10 %in total membership Womens section was established in the TUC in 1969 The broad objectives of the TUC's gen der policy are stated as:
i. To create gender awareness ii. To secure proportionate representation within the union structures iii. To promote the integration of gender considerations in collective bargaining agreements iv. To strengthen the legal rights of women in society and at the workplace v. To formulate strategies for the protection of workers

the economic and social status of women. To promote the welfare of women in the workplace and in society generally

ensure that the rights of workers everywhere are respected The greatest contribution of these international bodies is the organization both locally and overseas of a large number of conferences, workshops, seminars , and training program on

issues of importance to the work of trade unions.

Conclusion
TUC of Ghana has taken to various initiative to meet the challenges posed by this unfavorable environment. The labor movement still faces form Idabel obstacles in its endeavor to achieve improved wages and conditions for workers in the country.
