INTRODUCTION

Quality power supply is essential for operation of industrial processes which contain critical and sensitive loads.
Voltage sags and swells, short duration interruptions, harmonics and transients may disrupt the processes and lead to considerable economic loss.

With the advent of semiconductors many promising devices evolved for handling power quality problems. PWM-Switched Autotransformer came into light with the efforts made to devise a cost effective device for power quality improvement.

POWER QUALITY

Power quality is the provision of voltages and system design so that the user of electric power can utilize electric energy from the distribution system successfully, without interference or interruption. Power quality problem: Voltage, Current or Frequency deviations .

Voltage Sag
Commonly occurring power quality issue Voltage sag is defined as a decrease of r.m.s. voltage from 0.1 to 0.9 per unit, for a duration of 0.5 cycle to 1 minute.

TITLE and OBJECTIVE

Title: Voltage Sag Compensator Utilizing a PWM Switched Autotransformer.

Objective: To analyze and model a PWM switched autotransformer for voltage sag mitigation in a 3-ph system.

CONCLUSION

A novel and cost effective technique is proposed for voltage-sag mitigation. The proposed system has less number of switching devices and has good compensating capability in comparison to commonly used compensators.
