Cost of Disengagement
5

If 2,00,000 is average pay for employees of Britannia, then, average pay for 1 day: 2,00,000/365 = 548 approximately Hourly wage = 23 approximately Now if 2 hours of disengagement on an average: 23 x 2 = 46 If 100 disengaged employees on an average: 46 x 100 = 4600 If 20 working days in a month on an average, then: 4600 x 20 = 92000 For 1 year the figure becomes: 92000 x 12 = Rs. 11,04,000

Another perspective
6

If 2,00,000 is average pay for employees in Britannia, And Britannia expects a revenue of 4,00,000 from each employee. A disengaged employee is working at 60% efficiency on an average and there are 100 disengaged employees in Britannia, then lost revenue: 1,60,000 x 100 = Rs. 1,60,00,000

Recommendations
7

A weekly/monthly column, written by Regional Managers, on the intranet with company announcements / programs / market scenario / articles etc. Anonymous employee grievances through online portal Recognition letters Small picnics Introduce psychometric (initial cost may be a hindrance but in long run it will pay and decrease the chances of disengaged workforce) Job rotation so that employee gets new opportunities Movie at interval of 2-3 months

For people who are yet to join, give some pre tasks. Theyll feel a sense of accomplishment and will be able to connect better with the company. Respective managers should conduct one on one sessions to know strengths and weaknesses of employees. Over a period of time this session should be done and the results should be maintained in employee file. This data should be used to remove the weakness of employees by conducting respective sessions or via managers trying to help the employees grow. (one size does not fit all)

Dont follow political culture. Keep your promises Promote teamwork. Organize events which lead to random team formations for some tasks.
