Purpose of the MultiRadio preparation exercise

This document opens challenges related to Flexi MultiRadio
implementation. Network planning early participation in detail definition is a must Because of multiple configuration options, frequency and power budget limitations up-front training and competence planning is obligatory Rotation planning of the competent recourses (Who have gain the experience) is the key success factor Close follow up of the future releases and delivery plan is required CoDe material available here: (Training material is NSN internal use only!)

Flexi MultiRadio Network Implementation points

Multiradio BTS radiomodule do not have WB-filter but it has SW tunable frequency
filter which do not cover whole available frequency band, some challenges in frequency replanning is expected. Its highly recommended to offer network planning service to the all Flexi MultiRadio cases.

Configuring of the Flexi MultiRadio BTS is different than legacy GSM BTS. Needed
output power/carrier effects to the needed amount of radiomodules at the Site. Already in offering phase of the customer project NINPO co-operation is highly recommended to selecting right configurations and amount of radiomodules to the right sites.

Commissioning requires to create local sectors and mapping these with sectors

created in BSC. With MultiRadio BTS sector ID at the BSC is associated with a local sectors at the site. This requires planning in implementation phase when objects are created at BSC.

Power consumption of the Flexi MultiRadio BTS needs to be carefully checked and

calculated for planned configuration and for upgrade path (WCDMA, LTE) All power saving features are not applicable for MultiRadio, however future releases can bring new features on this area.

In concurrent mode, site creation process of NetAct requires one object creation
under BSC and other/third, under RNC or/and GOMS.

RFM functional blocks

Radio Module is the 3-branch radio transceiver module. The module
consists of three individual branches designed to transmit and receive multicarrier signals of multiple radio technologies concurrently. The module contains the necessary common functionality like the digital and control circuitry, RP3-1 interface and the needed DC/DC power conversion. Each branch contains the transmitter and receiver chains and the front end filters The front end filters are software tuneable filters. For support of legacy site expansion cases, RFM has separate UL diversity outputs for each branch so that the diversity can be shared between Flexi Multiradio BTS and a co-sited BTS. Diversity sharing requires the co-sited BTS operates in the same frequencies within the frequency band. The co-sited BTS can be at least NSN Ultrasite, Flexi EDGE or BTSplus. The fans used for module cooling are replaceable.

Power and Frequency budget limitations on FXDA (900 MHz) & FXEA (1800 MHz)
Power Budget: Maximum total TX output power on one pipe is 60 W
which can be shared between the TRX objects allocated on that pipe: 1 TRX = 60 W per TRX 1..2 TRXs = 30 W per TRX . 1..6 TRXs = 10 W per TRX Frequency Budget: All carriers (TRXs) allocated on one pipe must be within 20 MHz window: Example: 3 TRXs per BTS (20 W per TRX):

TRX-1 @ ARFN 1 = 935.2 MHz TRX-2 @ ARFN 50 = 945.0 MHz TRX-3 @ AFRN 100 = 955.0 MHz All channels still within 20 MHz = OK!

If either Power or Freq budget is exceed, alarm is raised:

7606 TRX FAULTY TRX object allocation failed in RF Module

BTS Manager and Commissioning

New 2G Flexi BTS Site Manager is used with Flexi Multiradio
When EX4.1 is released, it can also be used with Flexi EDGE. New 2G BTS Site Mgr looks and feels the same as Flexi EDGE BTS Mgr. Flexi Multiradio EDGE commissioning process is similar to Flexi EDGE: Site Specific Information (same as in Flexi EDGE) Hardware Configuration (different to Flexi EDGE)

Define used optical ports on ESMx system module Add RF modules on each optical port (RF chain) Add Local Sector(s) Define Per TRX power (W per TRX) for each Local Sector Define antennas (TX/RX antenna ports on RF module) for each Local Sector Define antenna settings (similar to Flexi EDGE) Define EAC alarm settings on RF module (optional) Define BBU and other passive units (same as in Flexi EDGE) Note: RF modules are not autodetected nor shown unless commissioned
