The National Confederation of Industry (CNI) was founded in 1938 to represent and defend the interests of Brazilian industry CNIs mission is fostering a favorable business environment, enhancing competitiveness in the industrial sector and promoting sustainable development in Brazil CNI represents and coordinates initiatives with 27 Federations of Industry, hundreds of sectoral associations and over 1,000 union organizations and enterprises, covering a wide range of issues of interest to the private sector, such as: Infrastructure Environment Economic Policy Labor Relations Social Responsibility Competitiveness International Strategy It relies on 27 federations of industry active in every state and in the Federal District It ensures the participation of the private sector in public-policy making with a view to promoting a healthy business environment Over 1,000 affiliated employers unions, representing about 420,000 industries It acts as a spokesperson between the private sector, the government and institutions from other countries
