Meaning of Educational Technology Technology comes the Greek word techne which means craft or art. (it may also refer to computers, machines, tv set, video, etc.

Technology: *it is planned, systematic method of working to achieve planned outcomes a process, not a product. * It is the applied side of scientific development. * It also refers to all the ways people use their inventions and discoveries to satisfy their needs and desires.

Educational Technology refers to how people use their inventions and discoveries to satisfy their educational needs and desires, i.e. learning. It is a complex, integrated process involving people, procedures, ideas, devices and organization for analyzing problems and devising, implementing, evaluating, and managing solutions to those problems, involved in all aspects of human learning.

Educational technology consists of designs and environments that engage learners . . . And reliable technique or method for engaging learning such as cognitive learning strategies and critical thinking skills.

Educational technology is a theory about how problems in human learning is identified and solved.

Educational technology is a field study which is concerned with the practice of using educational methods and resources for the ultimate goal of facilitating the learning process.

Other terms associated to educational technology: * Technology in education the application of technology to any of those processes involved in operating the institutions which house the educational enterprise.

Instructional technology refers to those aspects of educational technology that are concerned with instruction as contrasted to designs and operations of educational institutions.

Technology integration is using learning technologies to introduce, reinforce, supplement and extend skills.

Educational media are channels or avenues or instruments of communication, e.g. books, magazines, newspapers, radio, tv, internet, etc.

4. Technology as a social medium to support learning by conversing: *for collaborating with others *for discussing, arguing, and building consensus among members of a community *for supporting discourse among knowledge-building communities

5. Technology as intellectual partner to support learning-by-reflecting: * for helping learners to articulate and represent what they know *for reflecting on what they have learned and how they come to know it *for supporting learners internal negotiations and meaning making

Remember: The use of technology in the classroom enables the teacher to do differentiated instruction considering the divergence of students readiness levels, interests, multiple intelligences, and learning styles.

ere are still teachers in the field who have not receive training in the use of computers and recent gadgets in teaching. This makes the educational learning experiences of her students different from other students of the same level. To overcome this situation the teacher should; Stop practicing her profession as a teacher. Take the initiative of upgrading her knowledge and skills. Request the school head that she should be given a training along the use of new teaching technologies. See to it that even though she does not use new teaching technologies, the performance of her students should remain high.
